Order your CHRISTIANITY paper at affordable prices ! I just finished reading the story of Ruth in the King James Version of the Bible. This is a remarkable story it is about a young women named "Ruth", who betrays her royalty and commitment in her lifetime. Her name means "friendship" in English, which I can quite say she was a friendly person, who was always willing to help someone in need. She was always looking out for others, before herself, she was not a selfish person, but caring. Ruth was not only a widow but she was the ancestor of David and Jesus Christ. I felt sentimental for her, because she was a widow, who lost her husband, and had to get remarried.

As the story progresses, Naomi comes in who is Ruth and Orpah's mother in law she tells them to go back to their mothers home, to seek the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord was giving food to the people back home, because of the famine that had commenced. I really felt good about this, how Naomi showed so much devotion for her daughter in laws even though her two sons were dead, she showed so much sympathy for them. "May the Lord show kindness to you, as you have shown to your dead and to me". These were the kind words of Naomi, she was implying even though her two sons were dead, Ruth and Orpah were two admirable, and strong people. They were willing to stick with her and help her get through her toughest time in her life. I could tell that she was a friendly, loving, and caring person, at this point of the story. She was not a selfish, uncaring person, but a loving, caring and devoted mother in law.

Not only did I like Naomi but I also admired Ruth. Ruth was a caring person as well, when Naomi said "Return home my daughters". Ruth did not intend to go, she intended to stay with Naomi. She said "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you, where you go I will go." After reading that I could tell both Naomi and Ruth were two inseparable people. It felt good to know they would do anything for each other as long as they would be together through thick and thin.

The story of Esther, is about a courageous young Jewish woman, who grows up as an orphan, and is raised by her uncle. I was aroused to find out that an orphan, who grew up without a family, and money came to be the Queen of Persia. She even saved the the entire nation from the genocide in Persia. This book states that God had not abandoned his people, even though they were in the exile. I learned a lot about Christianity and I hope you liked the stories because I sure did.

The Swoosh Just Do It!

Most people are familiar with the Nike logo. Most people also know that Nike is a multi-million dollar company that sells name brand shoes worldwide. Millions of pairs of Nike shoes are sold daily, but what people don't know about Nike shoes is how and where they are made, who makes them, and how Nike spends its money in this process.

According to the "Sweatshop Fact Sheet," Tiger Woods is paid over fifty five thousand dollars a day to be their spokesman. Another famous person that is a spokesman for Nike is Michael Jordan. According to the article "Running Away With the Profits," (Environmental Action, Academic Search Elite), Michael Jordan is paid twenty million dollars in endorsement fees. Big name sport teams advertise Nike to appeal to the common person.

Indonesia is one of many countries around the world that is home to numerous Nike factories. Indonesia is a third world country of 14 million people. The main part of the economy is farmers, with half of these being the labor force. This happens to be an ideal country of choice for Nike to set up their factories for manufacturing their shoes. It allows Nike to take advantage of the local people. These people need to work in these factories to make a living, and they are stuck with the poor working conditions that Nike has provided.

One way in which Nike is taking advantage of their workers is through long and hard work hours. According to the article "We are not machines," the Nike's code of conduct states that the employees in their factories can only work sixty hours a week, and it's mandatory to have one day off per seven days worked. The task force in the article went in and interviewed the workers at the Nike factory in early 001 and found that workers' weeks consisted of seventy hours and more. This depended on the seasonal orders that the workers were obligated to fill. The top worker was working 84 hours a week. When asked if this worker wanted to work this amount of hours, his reply was no. Another worker stated, "Although overtime is voluntary in my factory, it is forced by nature, since we cannot survive without it." ("We are not machines" article) He has to work this amount of hours or he can't afford anything for his family.

Another thing that you might not know about Nike workers is the low pay they receive. The same report, "We are not machines," also found that the average monthly range of pay was from $7 to $44. This averages out to 5 cents per hour. They are stuck working the long hours that Nike demands, or they loose their jobs. Nike says that they are meeting minimum wage standard, which is $.8 per day, but the workers are working many more hours than required to earn this wage. They are not paying them for their overtime. It takes the average worker one hour of wages to be able to buy 1 kilogram of rice. The average farmer makes about a dollar a day, where the average factory worker makes about two dollars a day. Sure this is more money, but there is a catch . The catch is that the factory worker puts in double plus hours each day, in poor working conditions, with no rights. They aren't learning any basic skills for survival in their country, such as farming. Their children aren't learning any basic skills either, because they send them away to live in another village with a relative. They basically can't afford to provide day care while they work, nor the food to feed their children or themselves. The shoes that these workers are making cost Nike about five dollars per shoe, and on an average, they sell for one hundred dollars or more depending on the shoe.

The Nike workers also have to go through the workday in unhealthy work conditions. The process of making shoes involves many chemicals, and if these chemicals aren't properly managed, the worker's health is at risk. Dara O'Rourke, a trained health and safety specialist, was allowed in to inspect the Nike factories in Indonesia. He found excessive noise and heat. Levels of toxic chemicals were still present, but reduced. He found misuse of equipment and poor tracking of worker illness. Because of this investigation, Nike went ahead and introduced water based chemicals, which reduced the level of toxic chemicals. When they interviewed some more workers after this, they found that they still had health issues that were unresolved.

Another issue that these workers face is not having the right to form unions. According to the article, "We are not machines," the workers not only fear for their jobs, but also for their lives, if they even talk about unions. There have been many cases in which workers have been threatened and fired. There was even a case where there was a murder attempt on a worker's life related to the union. I think it's pathetic that Nike, which is an American founded company, will not support union activities in their own factories.

Many people would ask the question why is Nike hardly concerned about the welfare of its workers? This can be easily answered by looking at the global economy. The global economy consisted of many companies using third world countries as their base for their factories that make their products. All these companies are backed by the WTO. According to the article "Ten Arguments against the WTO," the WTO is not concerned with where a company manufactures its products or the conditions that it takes place in. The reason that Nike gets away with having factories as such in Indonesia, is that they are backed by the a very powerful world organization, the WTO, thus allowing Nike to make huge profits. Now I am not saying that Nike is free to do what they want. They have been pressured by many independent organizations, which fight for the rights of the factory workers, and the types of conditions described in this article. Because of this, Nike has made some changes throughout the years that benefit the workers, but it is still not enough.

In conclusion, it seems that Nike is making a huge profit at the cost of human live and dignity. Instead of spending millions of dollars on their workers, who are the backbones of making the actual shoes, they are spending it on their advertisements to promote their company. I realize that advertisement is essential to the success of a product, but it should not be at the cost of another human being to make a profit. I know that Nike is just one of thousands of companies that have taken their labor overseas, so that the product can be made at a fraction of its cost. Unfortunately the public sees Nike as a company whose product is worn by the rich and famous, therefore it is something that they would want for themselves. We the consumer enable them to continue this kind of business, because we buy the product. Through global media, we the public are becoming more aware of this kind of exploitation of workers. Overall, I think there is no pride to be found in companies that exploit their employees at the cost of a better profit for themselves. Awareness is going to be the key to hopefully fix it in the near future.

North of Italy

The North of Italian Plain is the richest region in Italy. It has a standard of living as high as anywhere in Europe. Most People live in larger Industrial towns and cities. Industry has attracted large numbers of workers since 150. Some of these workers came from the rural areas of the North Italian Plain but most arrived either from the South of Italy or from poorer countries, which surround the Mediterranean Sea.

Land Use and Jobs

Custom essays on Italy

Although only 4 in every 100 workers are farmers, agriculture is still a major type of land use. Most farms are large and the fields are grouped together, making them easier for the farmer to reach. Farming is intensive, meaning that no land is wasted, and commercial, which means that farm produce is sold for a profit. Vines are grown in the West of the region; Fruit, wheat and rice in the Centre they grow corn they do this also in the East

Industry

The west and the Centre of the North Italian Plain has always been the most important industrial region in Italy. Although at first centred on the "Industrial Triangle' between the cities of Turin, Milan and Genoa, it is now spreading outwards into the surrounding regions

The most important firm is "Fiat" whose the largest car assembly plant which is in Turin. The present head of Fiat also owns Turin's daily newspaper and Juventus Football Club. Milan is Italy's largest city and the centre for Banking and Fashion. Much of the region's trade has to pass either through the port of Genoa or has to cross the Alps.

Although this is the richest part of Italy with most of the better-paid and skilled jobs, it has its problems. As more and more land is being built upon there is less for farming and recreation. Towns have grown so quickly that there has not been enough time to plan them carefully. Houses and Flats have been built very close together, roads are congested and there is very little open space ad parkland. There has been little care of the environment and many pollution problems have developed.

South Italy

The South of Italy is the poorest region in Italy. One area has the lowest standard of living in Europe. Most people still live in the hilltop villages in rural areas. The few towns, which are the coast, have little industry to attract people. Many people from the South have had to migrate either to the North of Italy, to other European Countries or even to North America or Australia to find work. Recently even poorer people from South-East Europe and developing Countries have moved into this region.

Land Use and Jobs

Agriculture is still the major type of land use and 5 in every 100 workers are farmers. Most

Farms are very small in size. The fields are often spread out and are a long way from the village where the farmers live. Farming is at a subsistence level which means that farmers grow just enough food for their own feeds ad have very little left over to sell. Vines, olives and fruit are grown on the hillsides beneath the village. Wheat is grown where the land is flatter. Sheep and goats graze on the higher and steeper slopes.

Industry

The South of Italy has been an important industrial region. It is isolated from the rest of Europe by the poor transport links. The area has a very few natural resources, little money and limited skills. The high birth rate means there are too many people looking for the few available jobs. Large numbers, therefore, have had to leave the region in order to find work.

Attempts have been made to improve roads and to introduce new industries. This has only been partly successful, as the few new industries, such as steel making, chemical and car assembling, have only benefited a few places. Also, as these industries are highly mechanised they do not need to employ many people.

Despite these problems the South is slowly becoming better off. Marshy areas have been drained and trees planted. New dams, irrigation schemes and motorways have been built. The hot, dry summers and sandy beaches are attracting more tourists. Some of the earlier migrants to the North have returned with money, which they eared there. Even so, the gap in the wealth between the North and the South of Italy continues to grow!

The narrator of To Kill a Mockingbird is Jean Louise "Scout' Finch who lives with her brother Jem and widowed father who is a lawyer in the Alabama town of Maycomb. The story covers three consecutive summers and at the start of the tale Scout is aged six.

During the first summer they befriend a boy named Dill and the three children act out stories together and they become fascinated with the occupants of the run-down, eerie Radley house. Nathan Radley owns the house and his brother Arthur "Boo' Radley has not been seen leaving the house in years. It is Scout's first year at school and she hates it. She would prefer to stay at home and be taught by her father, but this is against the law.

Outside the Radley property is a tree with a knothole and Scout and Jem start to find gifts, which have been placed there.

The next summer Dill returns and they start to act out what they think is the "Boo Radley story'. Atticus puts a stop to their mischievous play, but they are compelled to find out more about Boo Radley and Nathan shoots at the three of them as they sneak back to the house in the dark. During their escape Jem loses his pants and when he returns for them, he finds them mended and hung neatly over the fence.

Cheap Custom Essays on inspector calls

The next winter they find more presents in the tree and the gifts increase in value until Nathan plugs up the hole with cement.

One of their neighbor's houses catches fire and whilst Scout watches the commotion someone places a blanket across her shoulders. Jem, like the reader, is convinced that the source of these events is Boo and he tells Atticus about the episode with his pants and the presents.

Atticus is appointed to defend a black man named Tom Robinson accused of raping a white woman. As a result, Scout and Jem are subjected to harassment from other children, being accused of siding with black people. That Christmas which is spent at Finch's Landing, the family farm, they are given air rifles, but are told not to kill a mockingbird. It is explained to them that it is a sin to kill a mockingbird as they only given humans pleasure by singing their heart out.

Their Aunt Alexandra decides to come and stay with them during the final summer of the story and initially it appears that Scout will be on her own as her older brother has no time for her, and Dill will stay with his mother and new stepfather. He, however, runs away from home to stay with his aunt in Maycomb for the rest of that summer.

The trial of Tom Robinson arrives and when he is placed in the local jail a mob gathers to lynch him. Atticus has taken up a position outside the jail anticipating this development. The mob seems determined to have their way and it is only Scout's intervention, which brings about the dispersal of the mob through her innocence and honesty.

At the trial itself, Atticus clearly shows that the evidence provided by the accusers Mayella Ewell, the supposed victim and her father Bob, is a concoction of lies, and Mayella's accusation is merely to cover her shame at propositioning a black man. She was subsequently caught by her father and beaten as a consequence.

It is clear that Tom Robinson is innocent, but the all-white jury convicts him and he is later shot whilst trying to escape from prison.

Despite the verdict, Bob Ewell, who was always ridiculed by his fellow whites, feels that Atticus has made his position even worse and vows revenge. He threatens Tom Robinson's wife and also tries to break into the Judge's house, but he finally picks on an easier prey, Jem and Scout as they walk home from a Halloween Party. The children's unseen protector, Boo Radley intervenes saving the children from the vindictive Ewell, who is accidentally killed in the struggle.

After carrying the wounded Jem home and keeping Scout company, Boo disappears again into the Radley house. In spite of Atticus' insistence to the contrary, the Sheriff refuses to press charges against Boo. saying "Let the dead bury the dead.

Scout agrees with this decision because as encouraged by her father, she has put herself in the shoes of Boo Radley and realizes that he could not cope with the publicity, which this would bring.

SERVICE

SAVEMART

Within the service industry, there is only one factor that is important and that is the customer. The only reason that the service industry is in business is to service the customer. There are many ways the service industry has been successful in dealing with the consumer when developing relationships between each other. Some of the ways are as follows

Customer Recognition This is where the consumer is recognized for their contributions to the organization. Whether it is a mere thank you for using their services to a sign posting their name, this all lends to the ability for that company to develop a strong and devoted customer base.

Consumer Contests This has always been a success in dealing in the service world. The way to the consumer is through their pockets, and if there is something offered to the consumer for nothing, there sure is to be excitement.

Discount Pricing This is again a wonderful way to the hearts of the consumer when offering a service. If a service can be offered at a discounted price, the service is sure to be well received.

Flexibility In this day and age, the term flexibility goes a long way. When a company has the ability to accommodate a customer to fit their needs, no matter what, there tends to develop a long relationship between the two. This may be even more important than price in some situations.

Reliability This is something that is very important no matter what the price is. Regardless of how much it costs, if a company will not be around to back up their work or product, that company is considered worthless. Reliability can be measured in number of years a company has been around to the number of references they may have. But nonetheless, reliability is very important to the consumer when dealing with their hard earned dollar.

Money Back Guarantee If there were ever a phrase that paid, this would be it. In the service industry, this is something that holds a lot of weight with the consumers and is looked at as a liability to the actual company providing the service. If they feel that they have an inferior product or service, there would be no way that they would offer such a deal. However, if the company has total confidence in the product, service and personnel performing the service to provide a MONEY BACK GUARANTEE, then they just may have something that the public is looking for and willing to buy.

Discounts offered for Referrals If there was ever a company that would stake their reputation on the efforts of their past performances, they must feel that they are doing it right. No matter what it is that they do, if a discount is offered to the consumer to develop a larger customer base, there must be some kind of confidence within them. This is a way of developing a larger customer pool by providing solid service to one customer hoping that it is passed on to another and another.

Friendliness This is one of the most important service that any industry can offer to its customers. This is one way that they customer knows that they care about them. It is also a good way for the company to acquire new customers based on the good feeling that the customer received while doing business with them. There is no room in any industry to make the consumer feel that they are not wanted nor not needed.

As it is clear to see, there are many ways that the Service Industry is able to satisfy their customers. Each method is a way of taking care of the current customer and attempting to develop a larger customer base. Each of these methods have one common denominator, and that is that that company must provide a service that is solid and sound. The company must be confident that the service provided will help stimulate more customers. And that the service provided is worth the money spent by the consumer.

NOT FOR PROFIT

Fresno-Madera Area Agency on Aging

The Fresno-Madera Area Agency on Aging (FMAAA) receives a grant from the California Department of Aging to provide services to the elderly. The FMAAA is a unique government agency having the flexibility and operating agility of a non-profit organization. Since its inception, the FMAAA has attempted to identify and address, to the extent possible, the needs of the elderly in Planning and Service Area (PSA) 14. The FMAAA is responsible for identifying service needs, coordinating a service continuum, and assuring the quality and cost efficiency of the service network.

The FMAAA's planning process to meet the needs of seniors involves understanding client characteristic needs, as well as conducting surveys to assist them in recognizing the needs of seniors in their PSA. In order to respond to the needs of the elderly, the FMAAA conducted a study of demographics and population trends, as well as the aging population, within their Public Service Area in 000/001.

The FMAAA began the planning process, which involved three different needs assessment activities. These assessments served as an important basis for identifying priority program areas, goals and objectives, and providing direction in determine FMAAA's focus for future goals and objectives.

FMAAA also contracted the "Coming of Age Telephone Surveys" of the 55+ age population in Fresno and Madera Counties. The survey identified unmet needs of seniors and assisted the agency in visualizing the needs of seniors living in rural versus urban areas.

The second assessment activity was the FMAAA Needs Survey, wherein FMAAA conducted an individual needs survey in their PSA in 001. The surveys were distributed to seniors visiting senior centers and other service offices throughout the PSA.

Through FMAAA's Advisory Council, in 001, FMAAA conducted their third assessment activity, which was a Rural Congregate Nutrition Needs survey. The survey focused specifically to measure client satisfaction and identify unmet needs. Senior center site managers served as mediators in distributing the surveys to seniors.

To ensure quality services are being provided by the services that the FMAAA contracts out, the FMAAA requires providers to conduct and submit to the agency an annual survey to measure client satisfaction. Seniors are provided with a self-addressed stamped envelope to ensure all responses are delivered to the agency. The FMAAA also conducts yearly monitoring for all the programs it contracts out. The monitoring evaluates both program performance and fiscal processes. In some cases, the program monitor will interview a client to include a supportive documentation of the program's effectiveness.

The survey results provide information about levels and patterns of service utilization and informal care giving. Through surveys the agency learns more about the health status and social well being of seniors, which assists them with a resource to plan their goals and objectives.

Since the needs assessment of 000 and 001, surveys have been conducted and updated every year to measure client satisfaction and identify unmet needs. The survey results are published and submitted to the California Department of Aging on a yearly basis.

Government

Madera County

In government, quality takes on a different role when we talk about customer satisfaction. Government provides challenges in implementing Total Quality Management (TQM) because of problems in "securing sustained commitment in the context of political turnover at executive levels, problems of identifying customers, problems in measuring out-puts and products, personnel systems that limit empowerment and the use of teams" (Rainey, 17, p. 6). Failed TQM efforts often display qualities of "insufficient leadership, weak culture, weak management of the change process, and poor provisions for motivation and teamwork" (Rainey, 17, p 6). Application of Total Quality Management is a long-range process, with challenges and opportunities. Critics of TQM call it a management "fad," an issue that challenges governments all the time.

Propaganda is defined by Merriam-Webster as, "ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further ones cause or to damage an opposing cause." One theme of George Orwell's Animal Farm is the power of propaganda and how it can be used to achieve social control. Orwell supports this theme with his use of plot, symbolism, and use of the protagonist. I will compare the use of propaganda in Animal Farm to Adolph Hitler's use of propaganda in his quest to become one of the 0th century's most powerful dictators.

In the story Animal Farm, there are many different similarities between the characters in the story and people in real life. By comparing Napoleon's use of propaganda to the way Hitler used propaganda, I will illustrate the manner in which both subjects achieved the result they desired.

Napoleon craved power and control and used propaganda as a means to achieve this goal. Napoleon serves as the story's protagonist because of his need for power and desire to achieve complete control of the farm. One of the antagonists in the story is Snowball. Snowball was a pig that was "quicker in speech and more inventive, but was not considered to have the same depth of character." When debating over whether or not to build the windmill, it became clear to Napoleon that Snowball could deliver a better and more convincing speech than he could. If Snowball were to gain the support of all the animals, it would certainly hinder Napoleon's plan to control the farm. Napoleon puts an end to this threat by calling in the dogs and having Snowball chased off of the farm, thereby securing his place as "leader." Once in control of the farm, Napoleon had to make sure that no one would challenge his decisions. To do this Napoleon resorted to the use of propaganda. By spreading rumors about Snowball, he could persuade the other animals to believe that Snowball was a traitor and a coward.

Napoleon's strongest propaganda tool is Squealer. Squealer is "a clever and cunning pig that is intelligent, as well as a persuasive speaker." He plays a major role in the spread of propaganda in many ways. One example of propaganda being used to Napoleon's advantage is when the animals question the unbalanced distribution of milk and apples among the animals. Squealer convinced the animals that it was for their benefit. Squealer is less than truthful when he says the pigs dislike milk and apples and must eat them because they contain substances that are necessary to the health of a pig. Without apples and milk the pigs will not be able to perform their management duties and Mr. Jones may come back and take control of the farm. This propaganda effectively instills fear in the animals because they believe their leaders are sacrificing for the good of everyone on the farm, so they no longer feel the need to question the motives of the pigs.

Custom essays on Comparison of propaganda usage between Hitler and Napoleon

One of the most influential dictators of the 0th century was Adolph Hitler. Like Napoleon, he also used propaganda as a means to gain social control. Just as Napoleon had his "Squealer," so did Hitler in Paul Joseph Goebbels. Goebbels was chosen as propaganda leader of the Nazi Party and his work as a propagandist significantly aided Hitler's rise to power. Hitler used many forms of propaganda but was most successful in using words. Hitler made many enthusiastic speeches and gained the sympathy of the German people while at the same time gaining their support. By gaining social backing, Adolf Hitler could take control and invoke a revolution that would cause political chaos and provide Hitler with the perfect opportunity to become dictator. Although Napoleon was not a great speaker, he did have Squealer who would actually speak to the other animals and tell them what to do and what to think. Successfully persuading the other animals to do as they are told, Napoleon could do anything he wanted and no one would stop him or have the desire to stop him until it was too late.

I found it symbolic that Napoleon had three dogs escort him around the farm for protection and intimidation. This is similar to the way Hitler displayed a large military army in front of the German people as a morale booster, and in front of the world to intimidate and discourage other countries from either attacking or resisting.

One of the many underlying plots in this story is the conflict between truth and lies. In order for Napoleon to take control of the farm successfully he must constantly distort the truth about certain past events and even change the laws they created to suit his own needs. This, of course, is one of the very purposes of propaganda. Napoleon directs Squealer to tell the other animals that they have enough food when in fact starvation was staring them in the face. Another example of this indirection is when they wrote the original fifth commandment that said, "No animal shall drink alcohol." Later in the story Napoleon comes to enjoy alcohol and has Squealer rewrite the fifth commandment to say "no animal shall drink alcohol in excess." This shows that Napoleon is only interested in his own selfish desires, but by this time the animals believe without question anything that he says.

Under Hitler, worker protections were dismantled, one by one. Soon workers were laboring for longer hours for less pay. Since there were no trade unions left, the workers had no recourse. The Social Democrats were not organized and did not offer a solid front for opposing Hitler and his plans. The people soon found themselves overwhelmed by a highly organized and aggressive army of Nazi Party appointees who did whatever Hitler told them without question. This runs closely similar to what happened on the Animal Farm. As the animals surrendered all control to Napoleon, the lives of the animals worsened. Napoleon's plan was not for the animals' benefit at all. In both Hitler's and Napoleon's cases, they took advantage of the power that the people entrusted to them.

Both Napoleon and Hitler rose to the highest attainable position in their land. Their similar individual strengths allowed them to accomplish this. They both had a mastery of propaganda. More importantly, they knew how to use propaganda to unite and manipulate their people into following their leads, no matter how questionable. Once they had public support, they could and would use fear and loyalty to further push the boundaries of how far their society would go for them to be the ultimate super power. Napoleon and Hitler managed to destroy many lives and completely change the social, economical, political, and geographic structures of each of their worlds. Hitler said, "Without law and order our nation could not survive." Napoleon and Hitler sought law and order in the worst ways possible and many suffered the consequences.
