Order your charred souls paper at affordable prices ! The sonnet "Aftermath" by Sylvia Plath reflects the writing style and cynicism of the author. The sonnet is split into two stanzas; the first summarizing the media's view of the incident, the second showing the victim's new conditions. Through "Aftermath's" structure and word choice, Sylvia Plath captures a sense of the public's selfish interests in turning tragedies into entertainment.

The first stanza paints a detailed picture of the crowd, gathering around the latest incident, each person hoping to receive their fair share of juicy gossip. Each person, thriving to learn new information to share with someone else, and earn their respect. Each one waiting for the "scandal [that] might any minute ooze." When "no deaths, no prodigious injuries" occurred, the crowd slowly turned away with a lack of interest.

The second stanza refers to "Mother Medea," who lives in the house. She walks about the area, "taking stock / Of charred shows, sodden upholstery," and her belongings. Although her life was not taken by this tragedy, she must start anew for all of her material possessions had been taken by the fire.

The crowd, who feel as though they deserved a death out of this tragedy, take everything they can from the lady and her sorrow and walk away. They feel "Cheated of the pyre and the rack / The crowd suck[ed] her last tear and turn[ed] away."

The sonnet is about how the general public will deny the victim any sympathy, and concentrate on their selfish attempt at receiving information. The crowd would be awarded the credit for receiving the information first hand, rather than hearing it on the news, or on the radio. It is also about how humans naturally tend to feed off of the tragedies in other people's lives, to make their own feel and look more glamorous to others.

This is also true for the September 11th, 001 tragedies, as well as the Oregon City kidnappings that occurred earlier this year. While the entire nation was suffering the great losses endured, the media placed their noses where they should not have been. Television cameras and stations, radio broadcasters, and newspaper journalists all crowded around the sufferers so they could benefit from the sky rocketing of ratings and the sales of more papers. The crowd in "Aftermath" and the media both behaved in a similar manner; one that paid attention only to their own benefactors.

Plath used word choice to paint a cynical picture; one where everyone's priorities consisted only of their own. She used words such as "loiter", "stare", "smoke-choked", "blood-spoor" and others to help create this atmosphere or negativity. Plath's unique style of rhyme, as well as the literal meaning of this poem gives it the cynical ambiance.

"Aftermath" really is about the selfish outlook of others, and their unwillingness to help another person out without benefit. This sonnet may be intended to open the eyes of these individuals, or to warn others of their intentions, but the meaning will still be the same. Those who carry a positive outlook on life will be harshly jolted back to reality by the cruel intentions of others.

Order your Movies Make the Difference paper at affordable prices ! The movie industry in America offers a wide variety of movies for audiences to view. American movies are popular around the world. Movies cover a wide range of topics and subject areas. Movies people seem to like fall into three different categories which include, but are not limited to action, drama, and comedy.

Action movies have many fights or battles. Some battles are based on wars from the past. We Were Soldiers shows a battle during Vietnam War. People call this a military-theme action movie. Some other action movies may include fighting against terrorists as in True Lies. This type of movie may portray boxing and race car driving. Some action movies have funny story lines. People like these type movies since they make people tense and then relaxed.

Dramatic films focus on the characters and the relationship between the characters and their surroundings. Dramas create all the information available to audience through the character. The movie A Beautiful Mind staring Russell Crowe is a good example. This movie increased the awareness of schizophrenia and how it impacts individuals, families, co-workers, and friends. Someone dealing with abandonment could watch To Kill a Mockingbird. The plot of the movie is the most significant for dramatic films. Dramas offer higher expectations of their characters than any other type of movie. There is a very practical benefit to dramas.

Screenwriters can use the understanding gained from movies with therapeutic messages to build stronger, more believable characters, and plots. Some people do not like dramas because of the slowness of the plot. Some viewers would consider dramas to be sentimental movies.

Comedies are a much like dramas just with a funnier side to the plot. Comedies utilize many of the same principle involved in the creation of dramas. Audiences expect some character development, some believability, and some plot. Usually the plot is developed around an unbelievable character doing something out of the ordinary to create the humor. Comedies can provide their desired affect without all the pieces of a drama, as long as the comedians are believable and funny. Take the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding; it has a drama based plot, but the characters add the humor to make the viewer laugh. The affect of most comedies is simply to make people laugh, not necessarily to inspire or promote perceptions, comedies have a greater rate of success among viewers. Comedies are simply to make people laugh.

Movies can allow the viewer to relax and let in ideas and feelings. By watching certain movies, the viewer can see how others deal with different problems or issues. Audiences have definite preferences of the movies they watch. It is often impossible to convince an avid dramatic film enthusiast to watch a comedy or action movie. Similarities between movie categories are so prevalent that classifications are seldom made. Viewers should be aware that there are many movies that can cross the line between categories.

Where While I was inside Burger King eating lunch.

Incident A young male child about the age of five was eating lunch with who appeared to be his mother and sister. The child's sister appeared to be about seven years old or so. They both had a happy meal and the young girl was eating her lunch , while the young boy on the other hand was playing with his happy meal toy that he had just received. The mother was obviously annoyed by the young boys actions and said to him "Why can't you just eat your lunch before you play like your sister?."

Guide Avoid motivating children by making comparisons between one child and another or by encouraging competition.

Conclusion this was a defiant misuse of the guide. What the mother could have said instead would be "Could you please finish your lunch before playing with your new toy."

Where While I was walking my dog through the park.

Incident A young female child around the age of four was running on the grass, her shoes were untied and who appeared to be the mother asked her if she could please stand steal until she tied her shoes so that she did not trip and fall.

Incident A young female about the age of seven was sitting in the seat of a shopping cart. This child was hysterically crying for a reason that I didn't know I walked up after the fact of what ever made her upset. The mother of this child tells her "Stop being a crybaby everyone is watching you act like a brat."

Guide Avoid trying to change behavior by methods that may lead to loss of self-respect , such as shaming or labeling.

Conclusion My observation of how this mother reacted to her child crying was completely wrong. What the mother could have done if this child was crying because of misbehavior would be to simply ignore this child throwing a fit.

Where In line of a local Taco Bell.

Incident A women asked her child what he wanted off the menu, the child replied "A number seven" then the mother said that he couldn't have that it was to much for him to eat.

Guide Give a choice only when you are prepared to leave the choice up to the child.

Where At a baseball field where I live.

Incident A young male child about six had a baseball bat in his hand and was hitting the ground with it. A softball coach came up to this child and just simply took the bat out of his hand without even saying a word as to why.

Guide Redirect the child by suggesting an alternative activity that is consistent with his/her goals.

Conclusion What that softball coach could have done would have been to ask this child if he would like to learn how to hold this bat right, and maybe even show him how to hit the ball of a tee.

Order your If I were a teenager during the Japanese Occupation paper at affordable prices with custom essay service! When the British surrendered on 15 February 14, Singapore came under the Japanese rule. The Japanese Occupation was a very bitter period of years and had brought hardship to our people. We lived each day in constant fear of the fresh disasters the day would bring.

My family consisted of my parents, my elder brother, my younger brother and me. We were very close to each other because we wanted to spend time together before anything might happen to one of us, anytime. Once during the mass screening operation the Japanese carried out on all Chinese men between 18 and 50 years old, or Sook Ching, my father and elder brother were ordered to report at a mass-screening center where they were questioned by the Japanese. During their absence, my mother and I prayed for them. Fortunately both of them made a safe trip back home as they were not identified as anti-Japanese.

During the difficult times when there was a serious shortage of food, my family of five struggled to live on a simple diet of tapioca and sweet potatoes, which were food substitutes for scarce food such as rice. It would be tapioca and sweet potatoes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sometimes, when we had just plain porridge, we were already happy enough because it fed more hungry mouths. We also grew a little of our own food because the Japanese promoted homegrown food and seeds were given away.

Help with essay on If I were a teenager during the Japanese Occupation

When the schools reopened, my younger brother and I attended Bras Basah Boys' School that was formerly known as St Joseph's Institution, and was used as a Red Cross Hospital before the surrender of the British. In the school, the students had to maintain a high level of discipline, which came down to singing the Japanese anthem in attention. The Japanese authorities had made changes to the education system, where the teaching of the Japanese language was compulsory.

Brother Michael was one of my teachers whom I respected a lot because he was a very special teacher who cared for us extensively. He would often gave his share of food to students who were very hungry, and console students who had family problems. During lessons, he talked to us about some changes our teachers had to endure. They had to tend vegetable plots in the Botanic Gardens during school hours, and do patrol duties late at night. He also told us that when more teachers were brought in from Japan, his and the other Brothers' services would no longer be needed eventually, and they would have to move to somewhere else to find a job.

As I was only a young teenager, I was lucky to escape most of the cruel punishments the Japanese soldiers inflicted. However, I was aware of the pain and agony many innocent people experienced. I could only hope that the days of darkness would end and peace would return some day.

Order your COMPARE AND CONTRAST paper at affordable prices ! America busy streets, dingy clouds of tinted gray exhaust, the shrill beep of horns, and a monotonous, got-to-get-ahead way of life. This characterization of a country I know well vastly differs from the serene, relaxed atmosphere that envelops the emerald slopes of Ireland. Having lived in both, and with the advantage of hindsight, I am able to appreciate the tremendous difference in terms of culture and life in general. America and Ireland are as opposite as night and day, the contrast between them as great as the ocean that serves as a divider. The discrepancy between the two is not so much in tangible qualities, but rather in the natures of the countries themselves the way of life, the people, and the values held in esteem.

I often get frustrated by the frantic pace at which life seems to fly by. Day upon day passes and I dont know where the time has gone; get up, go to school, go to a meeting, go to practice, maybe go to another meeting, go home, eat supper, have some free time, go to bed, get up? It seems as if Im always looking forward to that time in the future when life changes, but at each new stage it appears further and further away. I often ask myself why I do so much if I dont enjoy it, but it seems that the answer is clear. I feel as though I have to, that it is expected of me. The activities I partake in now will help me to get into a good college, then get a good job, then have a good future, then provide my good children with a good life of their own. Good, good, good. I find everyone is so focused on success and getting ahead that they often dont take the time to enjoy the daily pleasures that life brings. I sometimes find myself sitting on the porch with my family on a warm summer night, the brilliant setting sun casting the last of its comforting rays on our faces, and am filled with the knowledge of what life is all about. Its about sharing, caring, loving, and playing. It is not about work, money, and more work. It is at these times that Im filled with a longing for Ireland.

The people of Ireland are the poster-models for warmth, compassion, and hospitality. Days are not the basis of a rigidly-packed schedule, but an opportunity to receive what the world has to offer. A surprise midday visit from old friends (or strangers) for tea is a welcome break from the norm. Not because it breaks up the monotony of a work day, but because it offers a chance to open up heart and home and make life just a bit more pleasurable for their guests. Success is not considered in terms of monetary value, but in the amount of happiness that is present in the lives of themselves and those around them. A early morning stroll over grassy hills and lustrous pastures, with an occasional glimpse of the multi-colored, checker-board-like expanse of beautiful land that Ireland is famous for, is never taken for granted. The fresh, crisp, pollution-free air fills the soul, reminding anyone of how lucky they are to experience such freedom and simple pleasures without the restraints of time and work-related stress.

To me, America is the essence of materialism, Ireland the essence of freedom and spontaneity.

Inconsistent enrollmentMarijuana has become a very debated topic throughout the United States. For instance, under President Clinton, the war on marijuana had escalated. Clinton gave permission for "classified programs", which included military spy planes and the DEA to wage war on American citizens who use marijuana. Not since the Civil War has any president allowed the American military to be used against American citizens. The Clinton program against marijuana had called for $15.1 billion a year to initiate a "decade- long commitment" to reduce drugs in America. Clinton's program was a thousand percent increase in anti-drug money over $1.5 billion budget of a decade ago. Not only do marijuana arrests contribute to jail overcrowding, but they place the prisoners in a hostile environment where they meet and socialize with criminals, learn illegal trades, and are in personal danger. For many people who use marijuana, the use of a restricted substance is the only conscience illegal act he or she commits. Otherwise, they are productive, tax paying citizens. Enforcing marijuana laws drains resources that should be properly used to fight violent crimes. Nationwide, there were more arrests for marijuana than there were for arson, manslaughter, rape, stolen property, vandalism, and sex offenses combined. The United States is second in the world in its rate of incarceration. The marijuana laws have eroded the confidence and the trust that Americans have for the police. As long as marijuana remains illegal, jails will be filled to

capacity with people who use marijuana and will be rid of the people who really should be in prison.

In terms of health effects on humans, the government itself admits that marijuana is relatively harmless. According to the The National Institute of Drug Abuse pamphlet for Parents Only What You Need to Know About Marijuana states, "Marijuana does not directly cause mental problems, but like many other drugs, it appears to bring to the surface emotional problems and can even trigger more severe disorders, particularly schizophrenia[...] There is little evidence that the drug is physically addicting[...] There is nothing in marijuana itself that causes people to use other drugs[...] No definitive neurological study of humans has turned up evidence of marijuana - related permanent brain damage[...] There is no direct evidence so far that marijuana can cause cancer in humans." Marijuana is a natural herb that has yet been a factor in a death in Americans. Tobacco kills about 0,000 people per year, alcohol kills about 80,000, even aspirin kills up to ,000, while on the other hand marijuana has been proven to kill a single person.

When our founding fathers were building our country, they felt that our new nation should have a Constitution that would balance a limited form of government against the sovereignty of its people. In order to do this and safeguard the rights of the citizens they created a system of checks and balances, bicameral legislatures, and a republican governmental structure that would become know as federalism. Of the three, the Checks and Balances portion would play an important role in protecting the citizens of this new republic from the potential abuses of government.

In order to understand the Checks and Balance system, we must first understand that it is an integral part of our federal government. It plays an important role in a federation that unites political entities into a single cohesive unit and that it's goal is to work together to maintain the integrity of individual rights.

Through the Checks and Balance system, the founding fathers and state delegates decided that the federal government should possess limited power over the people. They wanted a government that would respect its citizens and provide as much local control as needed to maintain the feeling of freedom, which would be the foundation of the new democracy.

Based on the ideology of natural laws and natural rights, our founding fathers developed the concept of constitutional checks and balances to separate the three branches (Executive, Legislative, and Judicial) of government to ensure that governmental power would not be used in an abusive manner.

Buy cheap Discuss the political concept of "CHECKS AND BALANCES". term paper

They would write provisions for this system into the Constitution that would distinctly separate the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government. Through these provisions, the founding fathers would develop a bicameral government that would be comprised of two legislative houses of congress that would run separately and would be subject to a presidential veto. The check and balance of this system would enable Congress to override a presidential veto with a two-thirds vote of each house. When questions about the legality of the legislation came up, the judicial branch would be used to either declare the legislation unconstitutional or legally binding based on the Constitution. The checks and balance system also mandates that the judiciary itself be subject to executive and legislative scrutiny. This is accomplished through the appointment of judges, delineation of court jurisdiction, and the passing of legislation that governs judicial and organizational procedures. Other provisions provided to enhance the Checks and Balances system of our government are the ability to change our Constitution through amendments which are used to reverse legislative rulings and judicial determinations and impeachment to remove presidents who have disenfranchised the general population.

Order your king lear paper at affordable prices with custom essay service! Many literary techniques are used to emphasize the theme of the Shakespearean play King Lear. The dramas theme is blindness, both mentally and physically, to the truth. In King Lear, the techniques of imagery, foreshadowing, and irony help to reinforce the dramas theme that people are blind to the truth.

Imagery is used frequently and helps to create a vivid image for the audience. Now all the plagues that in the pendulous air hang fated over mens faults lights on thy daughters. This quote uses imagery because part of the quote is lights on thy daughters which shows how Lears daughters dont love him except for Cordelia, who does. Another example of imagery, is when Cornwall stomps out Gloucesters eyes. When Gloucester realizes his mental and figurative blindness, Cornwall physically blinds him. At the end of the play, everyone betrays everyone else. This is an example of imagery because the characters are also betrayed mentally by one another.

Foreshadowing also enhances the idea of figurative blindness because the characters actions are hinted at before they actually occur. Ive escaped the pursuit therefore to survive Ill disguise myself as a crazy, dirty, beggar. Edgar, by dressing so poorly, is foreshadowing that he will have to do a dirty deed, which is killing his brother, Edmund, at the end of the play. In act , scene 4 the fool is telling Lear that poor fathers treat their children badly, when rich fathers make their children happy, but Lears children were still unhappy and wrong, even if he was rich. The fool was trying to tell King Lear that there was trouble amongst his daughters. This is an example of foreshadowing because the trouble the fool was telling Lear about could and did turn into something much more serious. Never! I was king, but I gave away my kingdom. The storm is my master now. This quote demonstrates foreshadowing because the way Lear is babbling, and talking about the storm, can mean that he is going crazy.

A third literary technique, irony, underscores the theme of the play. …Youll say they are Persian; but let them be changed. This is a comment made about Edgars messy, old clothes in act , scene 6. The comment is ironic because the word Persian usually refers to something beautiful and colorful. Away and let me die. This quote was made by Gloucester in act 4, scene 6. He was speaking to Edgar who had led him to a hill to jump from, but Gloucester expected to jump from a cliff. The quote is an example of dramatic irony because the audience knows that Gloucester is only jumping from a small hill, but since he is blind, he thinks he is jumping from a mighty cliff. In act 1, scene 1 Lear says, …Give me the map there. Know that we have divided in three our kingdom…to shake all cares and business from our age conferring them on younger strengths… This is another example of dramatic irony because the audience knows that giving his kingdom to his daughters is a bad idea on King Lears part. They know that Goneril and Reagan will betray Lear, but Lear is not yet aware of this fact.

What is mans purpose in life? Is there a purpose? If there isnt, then is it wise to end it, despite the fact that there might be nothing better? In Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, Hamlet struggles with these and other issues. He states that the question of life is To be, or not to be...? In this monologue, Hamlet is wondering what his purpose is. He states that the only reason people tolerate their horrible lives is the uncertainty of what lies after death. Who would fardels bear, to grunt and sweat under a weary life, but that the dread of something after death...?" Hamlet must question himself to discover the answers. At the point in Hamlet when this famous soliloquy takes place, Hamlet has many reasons to be questioning his existence.

Hamlet is visited by the ghost of his late father, who explains that he was murdered by Hamlets uncle, who is Hamlets mothers new husband. His father cannot rest until Hamlet has gotten revenge. Hamlets father has just been murdered, his friends are sent to spy on him, his lover is forbidden to see him, and Hamlet feels that his life is pointless and miserable. The pangs of disprized love, the laws delay, the insolence of office, and the spurns that patient merit of the unworthy takes... These are the miseries that Hamlet must endure. This is why he makes this speech to himself, almost as if he is convincing himself that there are reasons to stay living.

Most everyone in Hamlet is leading a horrible life. Hamlets mother has just lost a husband, his uncle is worried and guilt-stricken over the terrible crime he committed of murdering his brother, and Ophelia, Hamlets lover, is miserable because her half-witted father has forbidden her to see Hamlet. This soliloquy pertains not only to Hamlet, but to virtually all the characters in the play. All the characters are bearing the whips and scorns of their lives. The monologue is not only relevant to the characters in Hamlet, but to all people.

Many people feel at some point that their lives are not worth living. They may question if life has a purpose, and whether or not they are serving that purpose. It is quite easy to relate to Hamlets feelings of woe and uncertainty. This is what makes Hamlet timeless. No matter what century, country, or person, everyone has experienced to some degree what Hamlet suffered. Perhaps someone has just lost a father, or undergone a divorce. They could relate to Hamlets misery. They may not contemplate suicide, as is what is sometimes believed about Hamlet, but they do have questions about life, and the afterlife.

Shakespeare uses Hamlets feelings to express his own, as well as those of all people. Because of this, Hamlet has become a classic. Hamlets character represents people in all circumstances. He questions everything, and has experienced love, hate, betrayal, depression, grief, and anger. The reoccurring themes of revenge, death, and right and wrong, can relate to anyone. People experience these things every day. Because Hamlet represents everyone, the soliloquy in which he questions his life has become very famous. To be, or not to be, that is the question... This single line in poetry has been remembered because, in fact, that is the question.

There are many differently worded definitions of management to be found, one of the definitions I came across in Richard L Daft, Management, Fourth Edition text book is Management is the attainment of organizational goals in an effective and efficient manner through planning, leading, and controlling organisational resources.

Mary Parker Follett described management as the art of getting things done through people, a simple but appropriate statement. Hence management can be seen as both art and science. It is the art of making people more effective than they would have been. The science is in how you do that.

According to Peter Drucker, management is a practice rather than a science or a profession so there are no precise solutions, and the ultimate test of management is achievement and business performance.

Cheap Custom Essays on Organisational Behaviour

As adapted from General and Industrial Management, Henri Fayol, 116, management is to forecast and plan, to organize, to command, to coordinate and to control.

There are four basic functions of management plan, organise, lead and control. Emerging trends in management include statement that leading is different than managing, and that the nature of how the four functions are carried out must change to accommodate a new paradigm in management. Leader needs to establish vision and goals, communicating the vision and goals, and guiding others to accomplish them. They must also be more facilitative, participative and empowering in how visions and goals are established and carried out.

To most employees, the term management probably means the group of people (executives and other managers) who are primarily responsible for making decisions in the organization.

IMPORTANCE OF MANAGEMENT

Management is important in our society today. Accordingly, there are two reasons for studying management. Firstly, we interact with organizations every day of our lives. Every product we use and every action we take is provided or affected by organizations. These organizations require managers. Secondly, upon graduating, you will either manage or be managed. A course in management provides insights into the workings of organizations.

The importance and responsibility of management are widely, and rightly, recognised. The responsibility of management in our society is vital not only for the enterprise itself but for management’s public standing, its success and status, for the very future of our economic and social system and the survival of the enterprise as an autonomous institution. Organisations need effective manager to plan, organise, lead and control to attain organisational goals in an effective and efficient manner. Orgaisations without management, the resources of production remain resources and never become production. In a competitive economy, the quality and performance of the managers determine the success of a business; in reality they determine its survival. And the quality and performance of its managers is the only effective advantage an enterprise in a competitive economy can have.

The path Oedipus takes to get to his unavoidable fate can be altered although his actions and his manner make his downfall more dramatic. The gods laid Oedipus fate when he was young and although Oedipus tries to avoid his destiny the outcome is inevitable. Oedipus actions may change the road he takes to get there but in the end fate cannot be avoided.

Oedipus fate cannot be avoided and this is established and shown when he ends up in the situation of meeting Laius at the crossroads, resulting in Laius death. Although Oedipus pride and confronting manner makes him act the way that he does, the final outcome, that being Laius death, is unavoidable. Another instance where Oedipus tries to avoid his fate but ends up fulfilling it is when he marries his mother, Jocasta. Oedipus flees Corinth after hearing the prophecy from the oracle, believing that Polybus and Merope are his parents however fate directs him to his real Parents and subsequently causes him to murder Laius and marry Jocasta.

Oedipus on many occasions attempts to avoid his fate by doing things that he believes will result in his fate being unfulfilled however fate cannot be avoided. An example of this is when Oedipus flees Corinth, he sees this as running from those who he believes are his parents. This dramatic attempt at trying to avoid his fate show that Oedipus is willing to do a lot to avoid his destiny, including giving up his throne. Oedipus also tries to avoid his fate by marrying somebody who he considers to not be his mother There is nothing to fear. Though I be proved slave-born to the third generation, your honour is not impugned. Page 55 suggests that Oedipus believes that the only thing Jocasta is fearing is that of his possible poor past family generations. Oedipus blames everyone but himself for the murder of Laius as shown by the line I here pronounce my sentence upon his head. No matter who he may be, he is forbidden. Therefore banishing himself, as he believes he did not murder Laius, dramatic irony.

The arrogance of Oedipus alters his path to fulfill his fate and makes the downfall more dramatic. Oedipus arrogance can be shown in his insults on Teiresias where he says Shameless and brainless, sightless, senseless sot! suggesting that by doing this Oedipus is insulting a friend of the gods and subsequently will be dealt with harder then first planned. His insults on Teiresias carry over onto Creon and the line By no means I would have you dead, not banished. Is a harsh and arrogant punishment for Creon to receive and shows that Oedipus is searching for a scapegoat due to his belief that he is exempt from the murderer of Laius. Further aggression on the Shepherd who is telling Oedipus his past shows that Oedipus way of dealing with difficult situations is through violence. This can be shown in Oedipus line Answer! If I must speak again, you die!.

Forming a partnership can be positive for a business. Acting as partners allows individuals to share finances, creative ideas, workload, and facilities. The question is, is having a partnership a bad idea? There is a lot of legality to a partnership, and if it is not written up carefully and agreed upon, then it can create an opportunity for conflict.

Unfortunately, precise-sounding legal language can conceal serious disagreements if the partners haven't discussed their arrangements in sufficient details. There are always some unavoidable ambiguities even in the most detailed contracts. This can lead to big trouble if the partners haven't bought in to the agreement on an emotional level.

This happened to a group of five very experienced business people who could not quite agree on how they would share ownership of their new company. Each person brought something different to the table. One has been a CEO of a large company, another had a legal background, another had significant money to invest, and another had national prominence. Due to the differences in the roles that each individual would play, setting a value on each partner's contribution was especially difficult. The partners wanted to wind up with a percentage of the ownership that would satisfy their own sense of self-worth. After difficult negotiations, they finally agreed on percentages. Legal documents specified their equity shares, along with their positions, titles, and compensations.

A year into the partnership, the CEO and the investor partners went to the other three and said that they now know enough to establish percentages that are more equitable for everyone. They decided that revisiting the percentages was something they had all agreed to do. Two of the other partners didn't recall that agreement. The fifth partner, who was the chairman of the board, tried to stay neutral, although he probably would have sided with the CEO partner in a crunch. The two partners who insisted on following the original agreement, had the right to do so, because there was nothing on paper that said anything about adjusting the percentages. The CEO partner could have thrown those two partners out of the company, that was his right as CEO, but he didn't have the legal authority to make any changes in the way the equity was divided up. All five partners understood that if this ended up in litigation that their fortunes and futures would be at risk. They decided that they would seek mediation for their differences.

Buy cheap Having Partners: A Bad Idea? term paper

In my opinion, partnerships can have a tremendous impact on a business. Whether the business is going well or bad there is bound to be a difference of opinion on how the equity should be divided at any given time. This is why when setting up the partnership you need to be brutally honest on how you feel as far as your worth to the company and what is owed to you. Probably the best thing when establishing a partnership is to have a mediator. This third party is neutral and can negotiate without the emotional attachment. If this is done in the beginning, it is possible to avoid most of the major conflicts that may arise down the road.

Please note that this sample paper on Having Partners: A Bad Idea? is for your review only. Order your Moby Dick paper at affordable prices ! An allusion is a reference to a well-known person, place, event, literary work, or work

of art. Writers often use biblical and mythological allusions to which their readers are

familiar. In Moby Dick, Herman Melville frequently uses biblical and mythological allusions.

With these allusions the reader begins to understand the topic of discussion and is also

Buy Moby Dick term paper

exposed to the wisdom and knowledge Melville possess.

The first allusion appears in the first line of the novel. "Call me Ishmael." Ishmael was

the biblical son of Abraham and his servant Hagar. He was disowned in favor of Isaac,

Abraham's son with his wife Sarah. An angel prophesied to Hagar. "his hand shall be against

every man, and every man's hand against him." The name "Ishmael" has since become used

commonly for an outcast, which is appropriate since he is inexperienced when it comes to

whaling and is viewed as AN outcast to the other sailors upon the Pequod.

Another biblical allusion is of the prophet Elijah and Captain Ahab. Elijah WARNS

Queequeg and Ishmael of Ahab. Ishmael says he and Queequeg ARE boarding the Pequod

because they have just "signed the articles" and Elijah responds "Anything down there about

your souls. This conflict between Elijah and Ahab goes all the way back to the bible. I Kings

describes the conflict between King Ahab and his wife Jezebel. Elijah tells Ahab that "in the

place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick they blood, even thine," and that

"the dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezrell". This allusion is significant for

foreshadowing the destruction of the Pequod. In Moby Dick the characters names are not so

different than names in the Bible and neither is the outcome of those characters so different.

Melville not only used a number of biblical allusions in Moby Dick, but he also used

many mythological allusions. He used Greek mythology in describing the tattooing on the

Queequeg. "The counterpane of the patchwork, full of odd little parti-colored squares and

triangles, and this arm of his tattooed all over with an interminable Cretan labyrinth of a

figure". The Cretan labyrinth was the maze, which imprisoned the half-bull, half-human

Minotaur. This adds immensely to the visual imagery of Queequeg. Being able to imagine this

large, black harpoon with a "Cretan labyrinth of a figure" the reader has a more appealing

and specific picture of him.

Another mythological allusion Melville used in Moby Dick is mentioned of the Fares.

Ishmael justifies his boarding the Pequod when he says, "I should now take it into my head

to go on a whaling voyage, this the invisible police officer at the Fates, who has constant

surveillance of me, and secretly dogs me, and influences me in some unaccountable way…".

The Fates are the three goddess who control life and human destiny, Clotho spins the thread

of life, Lachisis determines its length, and Attropos cuts in off". Melville creates a much more

intellectual statement than if he were to say, "I decided to go on a whaling voyage because I

felt like it"

There are many more allusions in Moby Dick. Melville effectively shows the reader his

intelligence. The allusions in Moby Dick are to commonly known people and conflicts. This

makes the novel easier for the reader to comprehend.

At the western edge of America, where the continent falls into the Pacific as it follows the sun, the coast has always seemed an image of Eden, a garden of earthly delights. "There is an island called California, on the right hand of the Indies, very near the Earthly Paradise," wrote a 16th century Spanish fantasist in a novel that gave the Golden State its name. California, and other stretches of North America's Pacific shore, would become the fated and fateful destinations of adventurous journeys westward by European settlers, cowboys, miners, Forty-Niners and dreamers. There the travellers would pass, or so they hoped, from their old lives and the Old world into a heaven on earth.

In spite of the seemingly inexorable European settlement of the Pacific Coast, there are strangers in the Western paradise. Other peoples, too, have sought the "good country," though instead of crossing the continent, they have crossed an ocean; instead of looking back to Europe, they trace their bloodlines to Asia. They blend in and yet they do not. Today Anglos in the North American West in the U.S. and in Canada are discovering that they have Asian shadows, that the Pacific Coast has become a subcontinent of peoples and cultures that mirror one another in a vague, amorphous antagonism. With Asians bringing vitality and a renewed sense of purpose to the region, is history repeating itself with a twist? Is this the rewinning of the West by Korean entrepreneurs, Japanese financiers, Indian doctors, Filipino nurses, Vietnamese restaurateurs and Chinese engineers?`

Yet even as they stake their claims to the North American West, Asian migrants are encountering problems racism, the ambivalence of assimilation, the perils of prosperity, ethnic jealousies and the sometimes dire inequities that come with a laissez-faire society. Asians in general are still strangers in the Western paradise, and they are keenly aware of their status.

Many have found prosperity in their new home. Yet there is no pan-Asian prosperity, just as there is no such thing as an "Asian-American." There are comfortably middle-class, fourth-generation Japanese Americans, and there are prospering new immigrants from Taiwan and Hong Kong and South Korea, all driven by an admirable work ethic. There are also fragmented Filipino families headed by women, and Hmong tribesmen who know little of technology and find themselves dependent upon public assistance. "There are people without hope in the Asian-American community," says Michael Woo, the lone Asian member of the Los Angeles city council. It is a notion that probably sounds strange to those whose only awareness of Asian Americans is of whiz-kid scholars and hardworking greengrocers.

The economic success of some Asians works against others. Labeled a "model minority" rather than a group of separate communities requiring specific kinds of help, Asian Americans are often shut out of affirmative-action programs, even though many Indochinese refugees are in dire of need them.

Paradise is paradise, but it has turned out to be less than perfect and more than a little disconcerting. What was it they set out to find, and why is it yet to be found? Even as their numbers and their economic and political influence expand on the Pacific Coast, Asian immigrants are pondering those very questions.

Order your Those Winter Sundays paper at affordable prices with custom essay service! Robert Hayden's poem "Those Winter Sundays" presents an interesting view on life. The poem speaks of someone who seems to be haunted by bittersweet realization of his taking so many things for granted. It focuses on the emotions, more specifically, the feelings of pain and regret that seem to characterize the speaker. Hayden applies imagery, character, and tone to impart certain thoughts; however, he abstains from making any serious value judgements and leaves the interpretation of the poem to the reader's own discretion.

The title, "Those Winter Sundays," artfully sets the tone for what is to follow. In this sparsely worded phrase, Hayden matter-of-factly states the subject with out using words that will trigger either positive or negative emotions in the reader. On the same token, the title has captivating implications. Most people take things for granted and oftentimes do not realize what they have until it is too late. This seems to be the case in this poem.

The first two complete thoughts in the poem are the statements, "Sundays too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blue black cold, then with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him." Hayden's utilization of the words "no one" automatically include him in the group of people to whom he is referring. It also conveys a sense of anguish and disbelief because his statements show that he does not understand how he could have taken so much for granted.

From his initial statements, Hayden moves on to the usage of imagery to describe his relationship and interactions, or lack thereof, with his father. He likens the words "chronic angers" to show that there may have been many unsettled arguments and constant tensions between them. He also shows how he would speak to his father and treat him with indifference. "Those Winter Sundays" show us how the speaker finally manages to get past all of the pain, anger, and resentment he may have encountered while growing up.

Do my essay on Those Winter Sundays CHEAP !

The next comparison is maybe the most thought provoking of the entire poem. "Speaking indifferently to him, who had driven out the cold … What did I know, what did I know of love's austere and lonely offices?" (5) He uses this last question to reinforce his regret for not taking the time to get to know his father and actually communicate with his father while he had the chance. It is probably not until many, many years later that he finally starts to realize just how much his father really did for him and just how hard it may have been for his father to raise him.

The prevailing tone in this poem is one of sorrow and ruefulness. Hayden seems to plague the speaker with grief and regret for wasting so much precious time with his father. Because of pride and chronic anger, the speaker not only deprived himself, but also deprived his father of what could have been a strong and unconditional relationship. Even though Hayden clearly conveys this idea, he manages to do so with out being too hard or judgmental on the speaker. He neither condones nor condemns his actions; he simply expresses his surprise that he could have been so naïve to take so many things for granted.

Order your Villain paper at affordable prices with custom essay service! Ladies and Gentleman of the jury there is not a villain in the play, Romeo and Juliet. As Northrop Frye states in his review, . . . in this play there doesnt seem to be the clearly marked villain that we find in so many tragedies. (Frye 8) This paper presents the facts that prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Fryes assertion is correct because the definition of a villain is a wicked or vile person. Mercutio, the nurse, Tybalt, and Romeo like a red herring seem like villains and could trick careless readers into believing that they are villains.

Mercutios wit overshadows his violent side. O calm, dishonorable, vile submission! Alla stoca carries it away. Tybalt, you ratcatcher, will you walk? (Shakespeare Act . Sc. 1. Ln. 74-76) This quote shows that Mercutio becomes so disgusted with Romeo that he challenges Tybalt in a duel. A villain acts with wickedness, Mercutio however, acts with honor because he would rather die then disgrace the Montague name. The nurse, can be thought of as Juliets evil conscious tempting her as can be seen in this quote. The nurse says, . . . I think it best you married with the County. O, hes a lovely gentleman! Romeos a dishclout to him. (Shakespeare Act sc. 5. Ln. 0-) This quote shows the immorality and bad judgement the nurse uses to tell Juliet to forget her present husband and get married again. One has to remember though, that the nurse is of a lower social class and she thinks she has Juliet best

Sayer

interest in mind. Therefore, Mercutio and the nurse are not villains and the examination moves to Tybalt.

Cheap Custom Essays on Villain

Tybalt while having problems is a genuinely good man. Tybalt writes a letter to Romeo challenging him in a fight, because Romeo came uninvited to the Capulet party. This action shows Tybalts hatred for all Montagues. The fact that he thinks Romeo should die for crashing a party is extreme. Tybalt should have listened to his uncle and forgotten about the party altogether, however, he grew up probably seeing events like this happening so responds in kind. What, drawn and talk of peace? I hate the word As I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee. Have at thee, coward! (Shakespeare Act 1 sc.1. Ln. 71-7) Tybalt is a hardened warrior and what he does best is fight. This is not villainous, since he grew up fighting, and he does it for honor. The final analysis has to be of Romeo as he kills two people and then takes his own life.

Is the hero also a villain; no. Romeo kills Tybalt. Romeo is so filled with rage because of Mercutios death that he does anything to kill Tybalt. One has to point out though that it is Tybalt who finds Romeo and starts fighting again. Romeo also kills Paris. Yes, this a violent crime but in no way is it pre meditated or even wanted. Romeo is seeking his dead wife Juliet at the tomb, when Paris appears. Romeo also gives Paris a warning and tells him to leave.

Examination is complete. There is nothing left to do but rest the case because it has been proven that there is no villain in this play. Even though Mercutio, the nurse, Tybalt, and Romeo might seem like villains they are not. Some might say the feud is the villain and this is almost true because it lives off death and hurts everything and everyone. The only problem is that the feud is not a person. The Montagues and Capulets can end the feud any time they are willing to put there differences aside.

The operations management is the core function in any organization but responsibility for operations is often spread between many different functions and personnel. The importance of operations management has increased dramatically in recent years. Shorter product and service life cycles, better-educated and quality-conscious consumers, and the capabilities of new technology have placed increasing pressures on the operations function to improve productivity while providing a big matrix of high-quality products and services. Operations management plays a strategic as well as a tactical role in satisfying customer needs and making their firms strong competitors.

Operations managers determine what should go into an operating system, such as equipment, labor, tools, facilities, materials, energy, and information and how these inputs can best be obtained and used to satisfy the requirements of the market place. They are focusing on carefully managing the processes to produce and/or distribute products and/or services.

Usually, small businesses dont talk about operations management, but they carry out the activities that are associated with operations management. The technological change, quality of the product or service and timing are some of the factors in operating management. For that reasons Ries Graphics, family-owned small printing company located in Butler, Wisconsin makes the decision to expend in the uncertain economy. The company decided to invest $10 million into "state-of the-art equipment and 15,000 square-foot addition." [] By executing this decision, Ries Graphics would become more competitive. They would be able to deliver better quality product with quicker turnaround time. With the new tooling, Ries would be able to lower their internal cost and then pass some saving onto their customers. Additional internal saving could be obtain by increased productivity. One new press is much more efficient it is capable to do the work of the two old presses. Finally, due to the retooling Reis Graphics was able to change their manufacturing processes, which allow them to buy less expensive rolls paper instead of pre-cut sheets. This change created even additional savings by reducing wastepaper.

The new equipment and changes in the production processes done by Ries Graphics allowed them to improve order-processing time. The shorter order processing time would allow them to increase number of processed orders not only from current customers but also from newly acquired customers. They would be able to acquire new customers because they should have additional capacity and be more price competitive due to the more economical production processes. Additionally there should be bigger customer base due to the projected by Andrew Paparozzi, chief economist of the National Association for Printing Leadership [], industry sales growth up to 4.1% next year.

Amiri Baraka, also known as Imanu Amiri Baraka, was born in Newark, New Jersey on October 7, 14 under the name of Everett LeRoi Jones. He is a respected playwright, poet, novelist, and essayist who is best known for his exploration and examination of African American experiences and his affirmation of black life." He graduated from Howard University and then published his first work, a collection of poetry, Preface to a Twenty-Volume Suicide Note, in 161. His plays include "Dutchman" (164), which won critical acclaim during its off-Broadway performances. Two other plays, "The Slave" and "The Toilet", were produced later that same year.

Baraka also founded The Black Arts Repertory Theatre in Harlem in 165. In 168 he founded an organization known as the Black Community Development and Defense Organization, a Muslim group, he focusing on affirming black culture and aiding African-Americans in gaining political power.

Amiri Baraka is well known in the poetic world as an African American enthusiast. He has written many poems expressing his experiences as a child and an adult. The poem " In Memory of Radio" is considered one of his greatest. It has an interesting theme, a unique tone, and several poetic devices.

The theme of In Memory of Radio is quite unusual. Baraka contrasts an imaginative world of childhood radio with an adult world, which inverts the word love to become an evol word. Within this adult world, the inhabitants are unable to understand the abstract concepts of love and make-believe. Baraka perceives his imagination through poetry and is therefore able to understand the abstract concept of love.

This poem seems to have a bittersweet tone. He writes as if he is in a dream and he cannot decide whether he can grasp love or if it is just an illusion. One line in the poem describes love as evil, a great example of a bittersweet comparison. As the reader continues to interpret this work it is very obvious that Baraka is trying to influence the real meaning of love.

There are many poetic devices in the "In Memory of Radio". It is a lyric and epic type of poem. Baraka writes many poems that continue on in several books. The Lyric type is expressing the feelings of the writer on the issues of love. There is no rhyme structure in the work; it's as if Baraka is just rambling about the true emotions that come into his mind. The entire theme of the poem is an oxymoron; again, a good example is the line stating that love is evil. There are some similes installed, especially were the author is comparing F.J. Sheen (an evangelist) to himself, and also, comparing himself to Adolf Hitler and Goody Knight. Personification is present in the line were Baraka is explaining that the shadows know all, giving a shadow a thought process. The poem ends through the irony of An evil word it is/ This Love, leaving readers with the sense that the true evil lurks in the hearts of men who have lost touch with the world of imagination.

Amiri Baraka uses his unique theme, his bittersweet tone, and several poetic devices to create his true style in the poem "In Memory of Radio". This poem is the expression of a man who is discouraged by love, but understands the concept of it. He seems to have many encounters with what life throws at him and most definitely in his world of imaginable love.

I don't know if you are aware of the incident that happened in one of the Island of PR (Vieques). The Navy of the USA occupied this island, for 60 years. They have more than the %60 of the island, concentrating the people of Vieques (generations of families) in the center of their island. The Navy (as you should know) uses many deadly chemicals, one of the main is urain, and this chemical has increased the cancer rates in this small island, killing not only humans been, killing animals and plants, and the environment of many creature (as the "Pelicano Pardo" that only reproduced in that island). Well; 4 years ago one of the puertorrican that worked in the Navy (yes, a Pro-marine) was killed by an inert bomb. That incident put us furious because we are benign killed by this empire that doesn't care about us, and is using our land as a big toxic trash can. So' many puertorrican start doing civil disobedience (my self include). We entered to the territory of the Navy and stay there, this pacifist protest stop the bombings, but this is illegal so many of my partners got arrested, I wasn't one of them. Well after more than 50 years of protesting, this past May 1 the Navy left Vieques. My brother went there and he said was in that precious moment, in one of the winning of a fight that we (Puertorricans) win against the USA. The only one, but this give us hope, and we are going to keep fighting. The only problem was that on the morning of the May 1, many of the "suppose" members of the movement, acted like an anarchy and make all the pacific people look like a bunch of barbarians. Obviously in the Word (communications, our worst enemy) that is what is going to show, a bunch of "Barbarians in anarchy", not the other things and beautiful that happened there, as my brother is telling me that really happened. But anyways at least my people have what is theirs, their lands.

As you can see I don't want to be part of an empire, living under a dictator, that only look for the good of his oligarchy, with out thinking of the people, his people. I know that you don't see it that way because, you are in an all ready state, and you matter. But my people and my country have been abuse by your country for more than 100 years, and they don't want us, they only want our location, and they manipulate our people (ignorant ones) with incentive keeping their mouth close (in my opinion the money and the power is the destruction of the humans). Creating a mass of lazy that don't stand for their right, and our right is one of the most important thing that a human been have. Now we are waking up, from a nightmare that was following us for many years, and we are fighting for our freedom.

Viva Puerto Rico Libre!!!!
