Order your Odyssey paper at affordable prices ! Scholars now generally agree with the theory of the American scholar Milman Parry that the Iliad and Odyssey were composed by oral methods of composition rather than by means of writing. But one must hasten to add that the scale, scope, and the poetic genius of the Iliad and Odyssey raise them far above most other orally composed epics or sagas. And it is possible, as recent scholars have suggested that writing was used at some stage of their composition, though the basic technique was oral. The essential feature of the oral composition of lengthy poems is that the poet constructs his verses largely from ready made verbal formulas (i.e., groups of two or more poetic words) which have been previously constructed by the poet himself or by some predecessor to fit various metrical positions in the line and to describe recurrent situations in the kind of narrative required. Thus a formula like he then in answer addressed the godlike, patient Odysseus can be used whenever the poet wants to introduce a reply by Odysseus. The formula can be ingeniously varied to suit the poets needs. Sometimes these formulaic passages may extend over several lines, as when Homer is describing the launching of a ship or the preparation of a meal.( 10 The Classics Encyclopedia)

The Odyssey describes the long and perilous homeward journey of the Greek hero Odysseus (Oh-DIH-say-uss) from the Trojan War described in the Iliad. The poem opens at a council of the gods on Mount Olympus. After having heard the complaint of Athena, the protectress of Odysseus, Zeus decides that the time has come for Odysseus to return to his wife Penelope, in Ithaca. Athena descends to Ithaca disguised as a human and presents herself as a guest to Telemachus, son of Odysseus, who sits glowering at the noblemen devouring his fathers livestock and wooing his mother. The goddess Athena suggests that he should go on a journey to seek news of his father. Telemachus agrees and leaves Ithaca. The tale next turns to Odysseus adventures. The god Hermes makes Calypso release Odysseus. Odysseus sails away on a raft, but the sea god Poseidon causes a storm and he is shipwrecked on the Island of the Phaeacians where Alcinous (Al-KIN-oo-uss) the Generous and his noble wife Arete reign. The very next morning, Nausicaa (Now-see-KAY-ah), the beautiful daughter of the Phaeacian King, comes with her maidens to the beach, and discovers Odysseus. She has Odysseus fed and clothed, then directs him to her fathers palace. At a feast held in his honor, Odysseus describes his ten years of adventures-filled wandering since the Trojan War, while being entertained by the Phaeacians. After Odysseus finishes his story, the Phaeacians promise to fit out a ship to take him home. Meanwhile, Penelope plans an impossible feat of strength to free her of her suitors. She shows the famous bow of Eurytus, and twelve battle-axes, to them. She promises that she would give her hand to the suitor who could shoot an arrow through all twelve-ax handles. After all suitors fail even to string the bow, Odysseus, clothed as an old beggar, offers to try. He strings the bow with ease and shoots an arrow through twelve ax hafts. Then Odysseus throws aside his disguise. After Odysseus reveals his true identity, Telemachus, spear in his hand, leaps to his side. They fight a brave battle and slay all 108 suitors. The kingdom of Ithaca is regained and Odysseus reunites with his family.

Hann fkk líka vöðvakrampa af of mikilli áreynslu.

Order your What A Great Idea! paper at affordable prices with custom writing service! What if I were to tell you that a barrel of fun is just waiting to be had by you? Though it is commonly only considered on those precious summer holidays, this easy to organize, costly efficient idea is something everyone looks forward to and enjoys. Yes, I'm obviously referring about hosting your very own BBQ party. Whether it is a grand festival of exhilaration your aiming for, or just a quaint get together with your closest of friends, no one can refuse good food, great fun, and the idea of spending time with others. The only two things to really consider are what to serve, and how to enjoy yourself and your meal. Having a BBQ is a great way experience the joys of friendship.

Upon that exciting moment of brainstorming the idea of having a BBQ, you want to make sure you plan a delicious get together; after all the whole point of having a BBQ is satisfaction. Take it from me; determining what to prepare for you and your guests can be the best part of the "Q" itself. The trip to the grocery store to collect the supplies is, in a way, the inspiring moment of what kind of mood your going to set for the evening. Your decision-making skills must be sharp and good judgment will also play an important factor when selecting your treats to please. Through the process of elimination your stomach usually determines the main entre(s) when put in front of your face, whether it be chicken, ribs, hamburgers, or hotdogs, select that tasty meat that will have your guest's mouths watering. Also, the side dish is just as important, if not more so than the entre itself. Select something that will best compliment your meal such as macaroni and cheese, which is always a safe way to go. The other things to ponder are refreshments. Depending on the mood you want to create, beer, sodas, and juices are all fun, safe bet. With this step out of the way, return to the grill and prepare to celebrate.

So the BBQ is underway! Preparing the food for cooking all depends on your own preferences. Seasoning the meat(s) and side dish's are the backbone to a successful meal as you want to perfect each individual savory flavor that is to offer. Whether the kick in your mouth is from the garlic, hot sauces, BBQ sauces, or any other seasonings you wish to indulge in, consider your guests and their tastes and preferences too. A lot of thought should go into this step. After pampering your soon- to be consumed meal with love and care it's time to toss it on the grill and cook it up. While the grill takes the spotlight and prepares the food, take this time to mingle with your guests through the act of conversing. Share stories, laugh out loud, and let yourself experience all that your guests have to offer. In no time at all the meal will be ready and compliments will be just around the corner waiting to be given as the consumption takes place. By this time the BBQ party will be in full swing and not a frown will be found at the social gathering.

Hosting a BBQ is the greatest, most simple idea ever! After determining what and how to prepare the meal for you and your guests the only other thing to keep in mind is to have a good time. After all having a BBQ is an excellent way to experience the joys that friendships have to offer and what better way to say "thank you for being a friend" than with the gift of food.

Discrimination

Discrimination; any situation in which a group or individual is treated differently based on something other than individual reason, usually their membership in a socially distinct group or category. These categories include ethnicity, sex, religion, age or disability. Discrimination can be thought of as favorable or unfavorable; however, today, "discrimination" is usually considered unfavorable. Racial discrimination, discrimination against women, and discrimination outside the United States, are some of the most common types of discrimination in the world.

One of the most pervasive forms of discrimination in the United States is directed toward racial groups. There has always been conflict among the different races of people. The Constitution of the United States recognized the legality of slavery, the ultimate form of discrimination. Black males are one of the most common victims of discrimination. For example, a black male in the "ghetto" walks into a convenient store, the first thing that comes to the clerks mind is robbery or maybe even worse. African-Americans and other people of different races other than white have always been mistreated or judged just because of their color. Racial discrimination against Hispanic-Americans is also widespread. Employment, housing, and access to the judicial system is a problem for people other than whites. Asian-Americans also suffer discrimination. During World War II, the Japanese were forced to evacuate from the West Coast.

American women have been victimized by discrimination in voting, employment, and other civil rights. Women were once known as "housewives", and many men and women still think that is what a woman should be. Not only do people think women shouldn't work, but they don't think they should vote, serve on juries, or do anything else other than sit at home and do house work. In the late 160's women organized to demand legal equality with men. They organized into the National Organization for Women and other groups for education, employment, and government. In 17, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was passed to the Constitution and submitted to the states for ratification. The ERA was suppose to eliminate legal discrimination against women, but it was not approved by the 18 deadline. Working toward the ERA built a skilled leadership of female politicians and lobbyists.

Most nations practice discrimination against foreigners within their borders. It may be religious, such as Muslims against Jews, Protestants against Catholics; racial, or sexual discrimination, as in many countries where women have few rights. People in other countries are always fighting because of discrimination. International efforts to combat discrimination were minimal until the passage of the United Nations Charter in 145. The charter encourages "respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion.

Discrimination causes great conflict among many people. Regardless of race, religion, sex, or any other characteristics, a person should not be discriminated. Discrimination is one of the reasons this country is falling apart. Every man and woman whether they are black, white, yellow or green should be able to equally do what ever they wish. Most people don't realize that every person, color not mattering, came from the same place.

Please note that this sample paper on Discrimination is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. Jack not so Hungry for Burger King, Allison Jackson, The Sydney Morning Herald

I have just recently studied in Australia, and one of the restaurants I frequently visited was Hungry Jack's. Hungry Jack's was identical to Burger King, same colors, the whopper, the whole nine yards. Except for one thing, the name, but what was weird is Australia also had Burger King's. This has puzzled me since I have been back, but after a little bit of reading and research, I have found the answer to my puzzle. The problem begins with the difficulty of international trademarks.

In 171, a business entrepreneur named Jack Cowen negotiated the right to be the Australian franchisee of Burger Kings. But with the Burger King name already copyrighted, he went with "Hungry Jack's". Since then Mr. Cowen has seen Hungry Jacks grow to 0 franchised outlets. With Hungry Jack's, being such a success, and Australia being a fast growing market Burger King wanted their share. "Burger King wanted Cowin to change the Hungry Jacks's outlet to the Burger King brand when the copyright ended, though Cowen resisted." Burger King then attempted to persuade franchisees to change from the Hungry Jack's brand to the Burger King name. "A lengthy battle ensued, ending in June 001 with Burger King ordered by an Australian court to pay $75 million to Hungry Jack's for breach of its franchise agreement." Even after the legal battle, and bad blood between the two, Cowen wanted to merge his Hungry Jack's franchise with Burger King.

Upon further research in the South Florida Business Journal, I found that Mr. Cowen was successful in his merging. The 81 current Burger Kings in Australia will be rebranded as Hungry Jack's. In addition to the rebranding, Burger King has plans to start up another 100 new Hungry Jacks within five years. Burger King realized they messed up in the past, but new that the growing market for fast food in Australia was too good to refuse.

This article answered my puzzle, there were Hungry Jack's because there was a trademark for Burger King's name at the time of starting the franchise, and there were Burger King's because that trademark had ended. Back in 171, when Cowen wanted start up a Burger King franchise, there had already been someone with the trademark Burger King. This could mean two things. One, a person knew that Burger King was going to be successful and bought the trademark rights to Burger King in Australia, before Burger King or any of its franchisee's could. Two, someone already had a restaurant with the Burger King name. These are obstacles that companies have to overcome, in order to go international. It just shows how complicated and difficult it is for companies to go global or international. Every country has a different set of laws to overcome. In the case of Burger King, they avoided trademark laws in the 70's when they came up with Hungry Jacks. But when the trademark ended they wanted all the restaurants to be renamed Burger King. The only problem with this is that the Hungry Jack's name had been entrenched in the Australian fast food market. When Burger King tried to influence the Hungry Jack's to change their name, they broke their franchise agreement and were sued. In the end Burger King realized it was better to cooperate with Cowen and Hungry Jack's, and decided to change all the Burger Kings to Hungry Jack's.

Order your confession of an expat child paper at affordable prices ! My parents met in Papua New Guinea while working on a copper mine. Not something that I'm particularly proud of, but if this is the confessions page I'd better start with that. You know the sort - Dad was in heavy construction, built roads and airports and water treatment plants and the family occasionally left the comforts of home to live near his projects in the jungle of Indonesia or Africa and stayed home while he was off to the more dangerous (less family friendly) parts of the world Saudi Arabia, Cambodia, the Gulf after the war ... So, I had the travel bug from early on but mainly knew that I had to help out. Volunteer is the key word here people.

But I would do things differently. Oh, yes. Balance out the crimes of the father so to speak. He was in old school construction. You may have read a report or two about the pure destruction left in their path. OK, maybe a little dramatic. But really, there was no concept of participatory processes, of asking the community what they wanted, throughout the "50's to "80's. No concept of putting yourself out for the benefit of the community. Of all the countries in all the worlds this man has lived, he wouldn't even know how to swear in anything other than English. And don't get me started on the environmental problems left for the people to deal with. I have nightmares about them. So bad that as an old man (which he is now), my father, the man who used to run over "hippies" for fun in the "70s, even said "Yeah, well … we didn't think about the state of the river as we pumped tons of soot into it." Or of the people who would have to use it for bathing, drinking, cleaning for generations to come? "We probably could've done things differently, but we just didn't know." That being said, they did honestly think they were helping out. Get some clothes on those people and give them a job and all the problems will be solved.

So, needless to say, I came over here with every intention of being the Queen of Cultural Appropriateness. That's part of what it's all about in the end. But … and here it comes … it's really difficult to be culturally appropriate all the time. And tiring. I can't handle more than a week of it in one go and I need to come home to my room and just roll around in inappropriateness (figuratively people). And that's just after dhal baat in the village.

What do you do when you just don't agree with certain aspects? As a woman and a feminist and a human rights activist, yet desperately trying to be culturally appropriate, do I have to just be quiet and smile through it? At what point can I just stand up and say I've had enough? When I'm invited over to someone's house and served by their 10 year old slave? Ah, man! That's just wrong, but I really like that family and don't want to insult them. What to do?

Luckily I'm working at a women's rights organization (ABC/Nepal) and it's filled with strong, amazing Nepali women so I do know that there are lots of things they speak up about. Like prescribed gender roles, domestic violence, favouring boys etc. There are hundreds of people out there who are trying to stop child labour. But still … to wear the crown of cultural appropriateness, I may have to rethink those conversations about things like homosexuality, boyfriends, and staying out late.

What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Our staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in Is a Child Born Good or Evil., therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your Is a Child Born Good or Evil. paper at affordable prices with custom essay service! Thesis Growing up, a child will experience certain events to influence his decision on what is evil. Therefore, man is born good and learns evil.

When a child is born, he has a sense of innocence, their sweet, kind, and good. Throughout their years of growing up children will experience what is right and what is wrong by parents, society, and experiences in life. Children learn evil at an early age, not how to be evil but what it is in general. Children will develop to them what is good and what is evil as time goes on.

The parent(s) have a great deal of influence in a child's life. The parent will teach his kid(s) right from wrong by discipling them, whether it's spanking them, taking privileges away, or sending them to their room for a while. A child will know that what he does is wrong and will try not to do it again. Another way parents teach their kids what is evil or bad is just by telling them it's bad. A parent may sometimes show his son or daughter what's bad and tell them its evil. A child is born good but gradually learns what evil is by his or hers parents' discipline methods and guidance.

Society can have an effect on a child learning what evil is. Society can display an image to a child saying that killing someone is evil. A child will recognize it as being bad and won't do it. He will see the punishment and the consequences for his actions. Growing up in today's society can teach a child what is evil, as parents can. Even though, a child is born good, society may influence a child's decision on what evil is, because a child pays more attention to society growing up. The society can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what the society says is "evil". The society consists of friends, family, and church. Basically the whole world in which we live in is society.

Write my Essay on Is a Child Born Good or Evil. cheap

To be born good and to then learn evil can sometimes be based on experiences in life. For example, growing up in an abusive home or community full drugs and violence will show a child the opposite of good, therefore learning what evil is. If a child experiences and is exposed to evil all his life then he will only know what is evil. That's where choice comes in. Once a child learns what evil is from parents and society, then he will decide for himself what evil is and if it's right for him. If that's all a person is exposed to, then he may think doing or being evil is good for him. Being born good doesn't mean a child will stay good throughout the remainder of his life. It just means he hasn't been taught evil. Everyone will eventually encounter evil one way or another.

So a child will learn what evil is from all sorts of events that will happen in his life growing up. Going through life is how a person learns and grows individually. People make their own decisions on whether they want to be good or evil. Television, Internet, and other sources of media in society are something that will persuade or influence a child's decision on what evil is. The only thing in a child's life that has a greater influence on him than society is the guidance and discipline from a parent. The only way a person can learn evil is through his childhood. A person is born good and learns to recognize evil but not to be evil.

Order your Harlem paper at affordable prices ! After I finished reading the four poems, I preferred ¡§Harlem¡¨ most. I think it is because the first time I read it, I had a special perception of this poem. And maybe the variable description attracted me. When I was reading this poem, I saw pictures emerged out of my mind. Somehow, I think this poem had a good metaphor in it but this doesn't mean that others don't have a good metaphor in it!

The title of the poem is named ¡§Harlem¡¨, which is located in New York and all lived Blacks inside. It is obviously to see that the contents of the poem must be related to the Blacks. From the first line of the poem we can see that Blacks do not have freedom and the whites inhabit them. It is said, ¡§What happens to a dream deferred?¡¨ (64). It also contains the meaning of The dream never comes true. What is the dream? When the Blacks come to America, have they ever thought their life would be this miserable? Of course not, no one would prefer to be a slave. But they had no choices just because the color of their skin. They had to work all day on the cotton field under the sun. So I think the metaphors of line three have two meanings; the first meaning is on a literal level, which means that the Blacks work under the sun and just like a dried up raisin. The second meaning is the deferred dream. The dream that they had when they first came to America but now they were all vanished, just like waters evaporate in the sun.

On line four and five the fester caused by the sore is metaphor to the disappointment. When you get hurt the first time, you probably will take good care of it and be really careful; but when you have been hurt for too many times, you will get tired and also very disappointed. And that is where the fester came from.

¡§ Does it stink like rotten meat?¡¨ (64). I like this line strongly. It is very simple and easy for readers to understand what the author tried to express. On the other hand, the description is suitable; just like an arrow shoot straight to the target. And the ¡§rotten meat¡¨ is to symbolize the ¡§deferred dream¡¨. It took too long to make the dream come true. Just like if you kept meat for too long then it will become spoiled and rotten. So that's why the author would preferred to use ¡§rotten meat¡¨ to describe the dream instead of others.

¡§Or crust and sugar over----- like a syrupy sweet?¡¨ In my opinion, this line is the ironic part of this poem. The author wrote this sentence so that this poem won't be too dark and full of complains, also it added freshness into this poem. The sentence is also the turning point of this poem. The next two sentences is metaphor to the dream again. The author turned the abstract into concrete. The dream is a big pressure for the Blacks to carry; it is a burden to them. So the author used the word ¡§sags¡¨, which can accurately point out the problems.

In the end of this poem, the author just used one line to end it up. It looks like a question but actually it is an answer. The explode in the last sentence means ¡§none¡¨. If something explodes, it means that it is gone¡Bvanished. So the dream actually is like a wish that will never come true, or maybe it will come true but there is no end in sight!

After finish reading this poem, I'm very touched and also a little sad. I am touched because I can felt Langston's sincerity; sad, because even until now there were still discrimination all over the world. I wish that one day all of the discrimination will vanished, just like the water under the sun!

As a ten-year-old child living in Virginia, Margaret is employed by a white woman, Mrs. Cullinan. Mrs. Cullinan is the kind of woman who gives into the pressure of her prejudice friends' remarks. An example of this is when Mrs. Cullinan calls Margaret, Mary because Mrs. Cullinan's friends tell her she should. Because of this, Margaret purposely breaks one of Mrs. Cullinan dishes.

The White people in the story were ignorant people, towards the Black people, an example is Margaret tells a woman that in Stamps, her grandmother owned the only Negro general merchandise store since the turn of the century, and the woman replies by saying, why you were a debutante. ( Angelou) This to me sounds like the White woman was acting in a sarcastic and rude way towards Margaret. Whites did not have respect towards Black people. Even after Mrs. Cullinan was told numerous times not to call Margaret anything other then her name, she kept calling Margaret, Mary. When Mrs. Cullinan would call Margaret Mary, I believe Margaret felt, as she was dehumanized. No one likes to be called a name that does not correspond to that individual.

Mrs. Cullinan, "was a plump woman who lived in a three bedroom house somewhere behind the post office. She was singularly unattractive until she smiled, and then the lines around her eyes and mouth which made her look perpetually dirty disappeared, and her face looked like the mask of an impish elf." (0 Angelou) Mrs. Cullinan was a woman who did not know how to respect individuals, she did not understand how important a name is important to a person. Mrs. Cullinan was a woman, who could not have kids because she was delicate boned, in addition she was exceptionally fat.

In Mrs. Cullinan's house, all the cups and plates had their own place in the cabinets. Approximately around twelve o'clock the table was already set for dinner. Around twelve fifteen p.m. Mrs. Cullinan would take a seat at the dinner table even if her husband had arrived or not. At about twelve sixteen p.m. Miss Glory would bring out the food. Work in the house was exceedingly harsh on Margaret, she always had to be doing some activity in the house. Miss Glory was a descendant of slaves that had worked for the Cullinans. (1 Angelou) Miss Glory and Margaret were almost alike. Miss Glory was very patient with Margaret when she was teaching her about the housework. Miss Glory explained everything that she had to explain to Margaret. So that she would be successful in Mrs. Cullinans' house and not have any problems with Mrs. Cullinan. Miss Glory and Margaret drinking glasses were placed on a separate shelf from the other glasses.

The point in the story, where I feel the story reaches its climax is when Mrs. Cullinan calls Margaret Mary. A point in which hysteria brakes out in the

Reyes

Household is when Miss Glory is hit on the head by a plate thrown by Mrs. Cullinan. People like Margaret and Miss Glory felt pity sometimes for Mrs. Cullinan, because of all the trouble that she has gone through and her husband not being there anymore. People thought of Miss Glory as a woman who was offensive, chauvinistic, stout, and repulsive. She did not know how to respect other people. The manner in which the china incident occurred was when Mrs. Cullinan insisted in calling Margaret, Mary. This got Margaret very annoyed, so Margaret purposely broke the china plate on the floor, to show Mrs. Cullinan that her name was important to her.

Institute Book of Readers Theater

Written by William Adams

The Institute Book of Readers Theatre; A Practical Guide for School, Theater, and Community, by William Adams is a very user-friendly handbook for students and teachers, as well as any person who has any interest in Readers Theatre. The Forward to this textbook as well as the section entitled, "How To Use This Book" do a very specific job of outlining the book's uses and purposes. Both sections explain quite well that Readers Theatre is a broad art and not only can it be applied to any educational subject matter, but it can also be used in other more therapeutic types of institutions. The "Pick and Choose" portion of the introduction instructs the reader very clearly about how to use the table of contents. The concept, I believe, is a very insightful one and makes the textbook a comprehensive source for any person using Readers Theatre for any of it's many useful reasons. Having the section called "Part Two School" broken up into three main divisions and four subdivisions based on grade levels, helps the reader focus quickly on the specific grade level at hand instead of flipping through page after page trying to find something that suits the subject. Above and beyond having a break down of different grade levels, the book goes on with Part Three and Part Four. "Part Three Theater" and "Part Four Community" provide ample information and instruction on other widespread functions of Readers Theatre. It makes sense to separate these sections, as the purpose and practice of Readers Theatre in the classroom will most often be different than any kind of Readers Theatre in another setting.

Part one outlines script making, staging, and oral interpretation. Each section goes detailed step by detailed step with several examples demonstrating each point. It often not only explains that there are artistic choices to be made, but also provides information on why each works and what effect each creates. For instance, within the chapter on staging, there is a small section on focus. Here, the differences between onstage focus, offstage focus and audience focus are discussed and reasons for using each are explained.

I found each section of parts two, three and four, to be very appropriately written. The examples in the younger grade levels are clearly examples that a younger child would relate to and understand. As the grades progress naturally, so do the examples. For instance, the "Early Elementary School" section uses nursery rhymes like Hickory Dickory Dock. It also gives day-by-day teaching instructions and lessons plans for developing "The Emperor's New Clothes". The Middle School section moves on to examples that are more relevant to middle school students like the script called "Punctuation Marks!" and a more serious social subject of "Sexual Harassment". Along with the plentiful script examples are a whole variety of helpful advice. Tips are given in the areas of humor, theme, movement, character and gender.

All in all, I found this book to be very comprehensive and user-friendly. It is entirely well written, very clear and very thorough. This book could easily be used by a teacher to aid in the instruction of a Readers Theatre class and/or to supplement teaching in any class at a pre-kindergarten to the university level. It would also be a helpful resource for a student in a Readers Theatre class.

The apparel and retail industry throughout the history of our nation has always been motivated to try and come up with ways to increase their profits by driving the costs of their products as low as possible. The solution to many of these corporations' problems has always seemed to be simple enough. The exploitation of people across the oceans in foreign lands for cheap labor is the common solution to these companies, whether in the apparel, athletics and sports products, or other types of industries to maintain a stable margin of profit at others expense. Sweatshops have become the means for companies in the retail industry in America to keep their customers satisfied, and at the same time make an unthinkable amount of profit off of the cheap labor that helps to create the products that line the shelves. This epidemic is occurring at an alarming rate with across the nation. The worst of which is the result of major apparel industry companies in New York and the greater Los Angeles area. In New York, the U.S. Department of Labor's Secretary Alexis Herman disclosed information that "6 percent of the sewing contractors in the New York City garment industry were in violation of the minimum wage or overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act." (CNN.com) The common American consumer, whether they know it or not, holds the power that drives the operation of the sweatshop. Because of this, it is our responsibility as consumers to demand that the products we purchase are made with a standard of morality and not in oppressing sweatshop conditions. The action must be taken in order to observe those individuals rights as our fellow brothers and sisters of the world and bring an abrupt halt to this epidemic, no matter the cost.

People everywhere must recognize that the unethical practices that no human should have to face occur on a daily basis in sweatshops. There is no reason for one human being on one side of the planet to suffer a ridiculous amount of torture in order to produce a product to satisfy another person. Humans must be treated fairly everywhere with no exceptions, and not have to endure hardships and cruelty for someone else's benefit. That is exactly what is going on in the modern day operations of sweatshops. Individuals must work ridiculous hours, sometimes seven days a week facing sexual harassment, discrimination, and even physical abuse from their overseers. Companies like Nike, Gap and other major retailers are fully aware of these conditions, as are many of the customers who buy their products, but these practices still continue. Cooperation between both the retailers and their customers is necessary to eliminate this problem. The most probable solution would be for the retailers to be required by law to present the consumer with a list of how and where their products are made, and under what conditions. The consumer must then evaluate this list and come to a conclusion as to whether they agree with the practice that went into creating the product and decide whether it was produced in an ethical manner that they agree with.

Some say that the solution to this problem is not an easy one to come to. By solving this problem, it may create another, the prices of the products made, as cost efficiently as they were in sweatshops would escalate. This is a small price to pay however, and the major issue of fair and ethical treatment of all humanity should really be the primary concern for everyone.

American dream, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your The great gatsby. American dream paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! In F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gatsby, the dominant theme focuses on the death of the American Dream. The American Dream has been transformed from a pure ideal of security into a scheme of materialistic power. Unlike most people in the novel, Jay Gatsby's American Dream is not material possessions, although it may seem that way. He only comes into riches so that he can fulfill his true dream, which is Daisy. Gatsby feels that that through wealth and power, one can acquire happiness. Throughout the novel, he must reach into the past and relive an old dream. Finally, at the end of the novel, he dies in pursuit of recapturing the American Dream.

The central character in the novel, Jay Gatsby, longs for the past. He devotes most of his life trying to recapture his love affair that he once had with Daisy. As a younger man, he was in love with Daisy, but he could not marry her because of the difference in their social status. He leaves her to find wealth in order to reach her economic standards. Once this wealth is acquired, he moves near daisy. "Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay." (8) He throws extravagant parties but watches them from a distance, hoping that one day Daisy will drop by.

When his dream of one day running into Daisy at one of his parties does not come true, he asks around if anyone knows her. Soon, he meets Nick Carraway, a cousin of Daisy, who agrees to set up a meeting. Jordan Baker tells Nick, "He wants to know…if you'll invite Daisy to your house some afternoon and then let him come over." (8) After he reunites with her for the first time in many years, he believes that Daisy is still in love with him. He is convinced of her love for him when he takes the blame for Myrtle's death. "Was Daisy driving?" "Yes…but of course I'll say I was." (151) He also watches and protects Daisy as she returns home. "How long are you going to wait?" "All night if necessary." (15)

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on The great gatsby. American dream

Nick attempts to show Gatsby that his dream will probably not come true, by saying that the past cannot be repeated. Gatsby replies by saying, yes you can. This shows the confidence he has in fulfilling his American Dream. Gatsby does not rest until his American Dream is finally fulfilled. However, it never comes about and he ends up paying the ultimate price for it, his life. Although Gatsby is killed, his dream dies before then. Moments before his death, Nick says, "He must have looked up at an unfamiliar sky through frightening leaves and shivered as he found what a grotesque thing a rose is and how raw the sunlight was upon scarcely created grass." (16) Gatsby's hopes and dreams are shattered as he lies in his pool, feeling as if his life has ended.

The idea of the American Dream still holds true in today's time as well as yesterday's. Whether it is wealth, love, or fame, everyone desires something in life. Mark Twain's novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, shows the journey of a young boy in search of freedom. The play, "Raisin in the Sun" portrays an African American family in search of making a better life for themselves. In conclusion, it can be demonstrated that throughout history, the American Dream can be portrayed through many different ways.

In order to learn more about the current government, laws, and society of the western world, it is vital that we study the past of the western civilization. I am looking forward to developing a better understanding of the birth and early growth of our civilization in this Western Heritage course. By learning about ancient cultures and their development, it will allow me to more fully understand the cultures that exist today. Foreign languages and cultures are extremely interesting, and I hope that this class will explore the history of the cultures that intrigue me. In addition to learning about the past of the western civilization, I am interested in acquiring the skills needed to read critically and write analytically on various topics covered in this course.

Outside of the Western Heritage class, I am very eager to better myself academically and personally during my four years at Hillsdale College. The ideals that Hillsdale College embodies, those of liberty, freedom, and individual responsibility, are ideals that I hope to embrace and integrate into my life everyday. Concerning my academic development, I would like to hone my reading and writing skills. It would be great if I was able to present a well-informed and meaningful understanding of a vast array of topics in conversation. It is also a goal of mine to become more open minded and accepting of ideas that I do not agree with. Beyond my scholastic ambitions, I would like to mature emotionally and spiritually by developing a better understanding of myself and my relationship with God. In addition to this, I want to be more objective and a little less judgmental when confronted with unfamiliar situations and individuals. By the time I graduate from Hillsdale College, I want to have a solid set of beliefs that I can live for and be true to for the rest of my life.

After Hillsdale, I am planning on attending graduate school and building a successful career. From a very young age, I have been interested in art, design, and travel, and my career will hopefully include all of these interests. To be able to travel around the world, exploring hundreds of cultures and sharing the beauty of their artistic achievements with others, is a dream I strive to fulfill. It is amazing that every culture has at least one type of artistic expression. Art is truly a universal language.

Establishing a career is important to me, yet I am also very interested in devoting time to those who are less fortunate than myself. Serving others is an important aspect of a positive life, and in doing so, you can gain a greater understanding of yourself. Everyone has a specific purpose to fulfill, and I believe that part of that purpose, for every individual on this earth, is to help others in any way that he or she can.

Most importantly, I want to build lasting and meaningful relationships in my life. Having a successful career and being an active participant in community service are both rewarding feats, but being a good wife and mother is a wonderful and difficult achievement that surpasses them both. Every man and woman ultimately strives to love and be loved. When you create a loving family you have accomplished one of the most valuable goals that exists in life. After Western Heritage, Hillsdale, the building of my career and my family, I would like to be remembered as a caring and genuine person that persevered to achieve my goals and touched each person that I built a relationship with in a special way.

Looking back on my high school community service experiences, my most meaningful, influential experience was my freshman year coaching basketball to children of ages six through eight at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington. My job included teaching a team seven of these children how to improve their basketball skills, coaching them in a game versus another team of their peers, and ensuring that they have fun while doing so.

The children all slowly waddled into the gym clinging to their parent's coats. As they all shuffled into the gym their eyes were wide with amazement of the larger than life size of the gym. Their heads slowly moved back and forth, up and down, as it seemed that they were examining every square inch of the gym with their eyes. One child wore a shirt that read "Chicago Bulls Time World Champions" tucked into his neon green shorts, his socks were rolled up to his knees and his velcro shoes were tightly strapped. He was ready to play some basketball. Peter, the head coach, a middle aged stalky man, who had raspy voice and combed the remnants of his hair over because of his pattern baldness, blew his whistle to get the children's attention. There was dead silence, you could hear a pin drop, Peter then yelled "everyone git' over here n' sit down in a circle," the children galloped over to where peter was standing and sat down. Peter split the kids up into 4 teams, mine consisting of 5 boys and girls.

I took my team too one of the basketball hoops to observe their skills. As I walked to the basket they all followed behind me like a subservient dog follows his owner. I passed to ball to one of the children, Joshua, the one wearing the Chicago Bulls T-shirt. He was shorter in stature than the majority of the other children, his watch which was set to the smallest setting; however it still managed to dangle on his arm do to his skinny physique. When I passed him the ball he struggled to gain control of it while fumbling it in his hands. I then asked him to shoot the ball. He grabbed the ball evenly with both hands and exerted a pushing motion towards the basketball hoop, his face turned bright red as he shot the ball. The ball hit the net of the hoop and dropped to the gym floor proceeding to bounce numerous times. Joshua's jaw dropped with disappointment, I told him that it was ok and taught him the right correct way to shoot a basketball. The children then partook in a friendly scrimmage. My team received the ball first; one of the players dribbled the ball frantically down the court only to loose control and have a member of the opposing team retrieve the ball, who then missed the shot. This style of play continued for several minutes, until I shouted at one of my player to pass the ball to Joshua. Joshua caught the ball 4 feet behind the basket, I shouted "SHOOT IT!" he held the ball with his right hand directly under the ball and his left hand keeping balance. He extended his right elbow in the direction of the hoop and let go of the ball, his right hand followed though with a downward movement of the wrist. The ball hit the back of the rim, then the front, and then fell through the hoop. Joshua's face lit up like fireworks on the 4th of July.

When Joshua's shot went in it made me realize what community service was all about. I felt the great satisfaction that one receives from teaching and helping. The fact that he made the shot because I taught him how to, gives me a great feeling of pride and the feeling one gets from helping out another is incomparable.

Response # . What is the significance of the opening remark "The ball is round. The game lasts ninety minutes?" How does the assertion shape our assessment of the film that follows?

A real game is not fixed. Those ninety minutes during a game and the games happenings will determine the outcome. What we view is Lola's games three versions. This game however, has no quarter time, no half time, no time outs and no blood rule. This is her game and it has the ability to change not only her life, but the lives of those that she crosses during her twenty minute game. These include her mother, father, Manni and the homeless man to name a few.

The game in question (which I have assumed to be soccer) has minimal rules, just like Lola's game. There are only obstacles that must be overcome. In a ball game that could mean an injury or indirect kick, whereas to Lola it could be falling down a flight of stairs. We are shown that life is all about chance. You miss the goal, you lose; you run past the homeless man with your 100, 000 marks; you lose.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Run Lola Run

Tom Tywker has proven to the audience that "the ball is round. The game lasts ninety minutes." Run Lola Run is a game to the core and Lola is the referee what she choses will determine the lives of others. Everything we do in life has a beginning and an ending, and can somewhat be considered a game. Ultimately, who is in control? No one can answer this question and this is one of the aspects that keep the audience on the edge of their seats while watching this film. We have no idea of the outcome and are given no clue throughout the film what the three possible endings will be. Instead, we relate to the comment at the beginning of the film. If we had not been told "The ball is round. The game lasts ninety minutes", then it is possible that we would not have been able to so deeply relate and connect with Lola's struggles. If we had not considered her life to be a game then maybe, just maybe, we would not be challenged to consider our own game and the how important the choices we make really are.

The director has also been able to connect with the game. "Clocks (were) everywhere…was it seven minutes or six (?)". How long is left on the clock as time counts down? Who eventually will win Lola, Manni or the clock? Again, only time can tell and in the game of life, time is everything. Obviously it helps if the director can connect with the game outlook of the film, but what we as the audience need to understand is that the game has quite clearly been produced in front of us. The challenge 100, 000 marks in twenty minutes. The players Manni and Lola. The official time. If you take the time to sit back and consider these three elements of the film then you will not necessarily be left with such a challenging mind frame and with so many unanswered questions.

Run Lola Run discovers dimensions where people often do not dare. Time is defined by the need to survive, to win a game of life or death. The ball is round, and in this case, Tom Tywker has challenged the concept that the game can predict the outcome of life. The audience has the ability to connect with Lola. We unwillingly become her and in a sense start to feel as if it is our game not hers. This seems to make us more aware that everyday choices can determine an unpredicted outcome. Run Lola Run gives us the chance to question our own choices as we watch Lola's choices unfold in front of her.

Order your "Tintern Abbey" paper at affordable prices ! Wordsworth's "Tintern Abbey" begins with the common poetical convention of vivid imagery. Noticeably, the poem is written in unrhymed verse. The words, although unrhymed, create their own beauty, in that they paint magical and mystical landscapes in the reader's consciousness. The poem then goes on to detail the fact that the scene has remained unchanged for the past five years, describing the landscape as rich and serene. There is a comfort, not only to the speaker, but also to the reader, in the landscape, and early on in the poem, a theme of solitude and hermitage is established.

Later, in the second stanza, the speaker goes on to describe some of his vivid memories, transferring their image to the reader. Through the progression of memory the speaker is able to leap beyond the constraints of reality and begins to see things in a new sense, he reaches a purer mind. The narrator begins the second stanza by sharing his memories of nature. The beauteous forms or memories of nature, have sustained the speaker with sensations sweet in lonely rooms…of towns and cities. The speaker later goes on to describe that these memories have comforted him during the period in which he lived in an urban setting, establishing the fact that he strongly believes in the restoring power of the memory. An equally notable convention in this portion of the poem is also Wordsworth's use of the word "blood," which serves as perhaps a metaphor for the river Wye (mentioned in the poem) running through the memory of the speaker as well.

Later, the speaker begins to question his own belief in the restoring power of the memory, but goes on to turn to the ruins of the abbey in solace, going on to relate his love of nature as being more mature (emotionally). Later, the speaker begins the final portion of the poem, pertaining to his sister, whom he had loved will all his heart. He addresses her as his "dearest Friend," and compares her own pleasure, although simple, with his own at some earlier point in his life. He goes on to state his belief that she will benefit from the love of nature as he had earlier done ("..my former heart…"), and find the natural world as a sort of haven from the bustle of the growing city. This brings up the interesting note that the speaker seems to draw happiness and his (former) youthfulness equally from his sister and nature. But, in the end, it is nature that he wishes well.

The tone of the speaker throughout the poem is one that conveys a deep amount of not only gratitude, but respect, whether it pertains to his sister, or to the natural world, and its profound impact on eliciting an emotional response (from the poet). In the poem, it is obvious that the theme/convention that remained prevalent throughout the epoch of Romanticism, a respect/relation for/to nature, is utilized to the fullest extent. Nature, in essence, according to the poem, is a substance that is utilized in combating the emotional pain inherent in human growth. As mentioned, a prevalent, almost predominant theme throughout the work is the ability of nature to influence the memory, thus impacting the psyche of the individual, eliciting a response. Overall I found the poem to be mildly interesting, but moreover found its beauty in the fact that it created vivid images of rolling hills, etc. in my mind. As a wise man once said (or something to this effect) "an artist is like a painter, with the pen as his brush, and the paper as his canvas; he, like the artist, paints with words."

Something that has affected my life would be finding out that my mother was diagnosed with cancer. Many things were going through my mind, such as what I would do with out my mom, how much I appreciate her and how I would look at life in the future. I look up to my mom and I want to be just like her when I get older. She is a very special and one of the most important persons in my life. Since my mom was diagnosed with cancer I believe that event has changed my life forever.

I was very upset when I found out my mom had cancer. All I kept thinking about was what if she did not make it and what life would be like without her. My mom and I are very close and I feel I can talk to her about anything. So if I were to lose my mother, I would feel like I just lost my best friend. Also I am not the only child in the family. There are five of us and two of them are younger than I am. So I know that they would need her more than me. Another thing I kept thinking about was that I would be graduating soon and she raised me all these years and my mom would not be there to hear my name being called or see me walk across stage. Also what would happen when I get married? She would not be there to help me pick out my wedding dress and tell me how pretty I looked in it. Also she would not be there to see me walk down the aisle or be there with me when I have my first child. All I kept thinking about was that my mom would not be here to share all these special moments with me. My mom would be missing all the important events in my life. I was also wondering how I could ever go

through life without my mom by my side telling me everything will be o.k. While all these thoughts were going my mind it made me realize how much I appreciate her and all the little things she does for me.

While keeping that in mind I try to do more things around the house that I did not before, such as my own laundry and helping her cook dinner. Also cleaning the house and doing the yard work whenever it is needed. I just whish that it did not have to take mom to have cancer to realize how much she does for me. So, after all I think that this event has changed how I look at life now.

By my mother having cancer, helped me look at life differently. For instance I do not take anything for granted anymore because anything can happen at any given time. I also make sure that I never leave anyone with an argument or being mad especially my mom because you never know if something is going to happen. Those could be the last words that you say to someone. So I always leave on good terms.

Not only did she live but also it helped me realize how she means to me and not to take her for granted that she will always be here with me. Charles Barkley is one of the most controversial professional athletes in any sport.

Interestingly, the book doesn't deal so much with basketball, but it explores a wide range of interests. Every chapter presents a different theme and is organized as if you are reading twenty-five separate essays. Barkley speaks his mind on each topic such as politics, the economics of the world, controversy, life can't be serious all of the time and even more serious topics such as September 11. One of the most intriguing issues he discusses is race and he explains that, "poor white people and poor black people just don't know how much they have in common." With that he describes how his own race doesn't want to see other black people become successful in their realm and to create a new life. He also discusses how graduation rates have been declining greatly over the past decade due to the fact that America's colleges tend to fail in preparing student athletes for the working world. In other such chapters he complains about double standards. One of the more current issues he writes about is the punishment for priests who confess to having had sex with minors. The way he sees it, is that the Catholic Church shouldn't spend time gathering bishops in Rome or flying cardinals in from all over the world, because if you're having sex with little kids they need to be taken out of the churches and off the streets. He feels that too many people have been hiding behind political correctness. From a jarring topic like this, he will transition to others such as parents and teachers should be held most accountable as remodels. As you read the book you realize rather, if it has a theme, it is that he wants people to discuss truly important issues. His goal is to get people out of the comfort zone and table subjects often pushed to the side by polite society.

The book is classified as an autobiography. It starts out describing his rough upbringing in Alabama and how the South was at the time. He depicts the circumstances of living in a poor community and how the drunks and addicts are the ones pulling kids down. Personally, I felt that the chapters about his personal life really gave light to the life of someone so different then me and anyone I know. It seems more accurate and/or articulates more then simply reading a history book, because its such a personal story that can be applied to others that were in his position growing up. The other chapters seem like you are reading a newspaper article, because issues that are relevant today are being discussed, which makes it very informative about what's going on in the world.

Help with essay on charles barkley

What I found interesting about the book was that when I finished it I had felt like I had been having a deep conversation with him, and whether or not I agreed with his opinions I respected him for his knowledge and what he had to say about issues. While your reading, your forced to create your own opinions. I feel like I have learned more from this book then any novel I have read on my own or in class.

I would recommend this book to anyone even if you aren't a Charles Barkley fan or even an NBA fan for that matter, because he discusses issues that are important to everyone. He is very blunt and honest, but is also humorous at the same time. I found the book to very enjoyable and was a pretty easy read.

Meeting rooms scarce at business venue

Meeting rooms at the Hilton Sandton Hotel, which has been allocated to business as a base during the Summit, are going to be extremely scarce. Those companies or organisations who wish to host their own meetings or special events during the Summit, are advised to secure meeting rooms at the Hotel as soon as possible and before 1 May 00.

A form has been provided for booking of business events in the Hilton on the JOWSCO website, but is difficult to download. A simpler form will be placed on the BCF website by the end of May. All events will then form part of the official programme. The person to contact at JOWSCO regarding parallel events is Thobekile Twala, email thobekile@wssd00.com or telephone 7-11-0800.

JOWSCO have secured 5 000 beds in Gauteng within a 100km radius of Sandton.

Accreditation, access and associated costs

The Hilton Hotel is not a "free access site' as it has been allocated as a Heads of State hotel venue. Therefore, UN-accredited delegates do NOT have access to the Hilton and must obtain specific accreditation for this. A form for accreditation has been circulated and may be requested from BSA or the BCSD SA. Once individuals have been accredited through their relevant bodies with the UN, they will need to apply for a separate Business Badge which will allow them free access to the Hilton Hotel for the duration of the Summit. The BCF has requested 1 500 special business badges that will be given out at a separate desk in the accreditation hall. These must be worn together with the UN accreditation badges and are supplied free-of-charge.

In addition, day passes for non-business people wishing to have access to the Hilton Hotel for particular events are also going to be allocated.

A Welcome Card will be allocated to all UN-accredited delegates. The card will give each delegate access to the transport shuttle system, and other venues.
