The history of Norway begins with the Battle of Hafrsfjord, with Harold Fairhair as the leader, in 80 AD. This battle was won by Fairhair, which helped him to unite Norway into one kingdom. This made Norway the first absolute monarch in Scandinavia. Fairhair was known as the Nordic Sagas, he is the son of Halvdan the Black and his second wife, Åsa of Agder.

Then came Queen Margrethe, who is known as the most powerful monarch in Scandinavia. She was the wife of King Håkon VI Magnusson of Norway and the daughter of King Valdemar IV Atterdag of Denmark. When her father died in 175 she got her son, Olaf, who was 6, to be established as the future King of Denmark, and she was legal guarding, and when her husband died in 180,again her son was named to the throne of Norway. In 18, King Albrecht of Sweden, died without leaving heirs and she was asked to step in as a regent of Sweden as well. This led to a treaty known as the Kalmar Union in 18.This union between the three countries survived until 151 with some long and short breaks in between. Queen Margrethe pretty much reigned until her death in 141.

Sweden then managed to break out of the union under the guidance of noble Gustaf Wasa, who served as Regent of Sweden for several years later and in 15 he was named King of Sweden. He is best known for being a very violent king.

in the war at all and were not asked their opinion but just handed to Sweden.

union with Denmark in time. He was elected as Regent on May 17th as

future King of Norway. He soon had to renounce the throne because of the

war between Norway and Sweden and went to Denmark to seek the throne

there. And in 188 he was named King of Denmark. He died in 1848 while

he was still the reigning King.

I think that if Denmark and Sweden would have made an agreement and not fought over Norway they would have been able to be one country. But also the different rulers and their hunger for power made it difficult for the nation-states to settle on an agreement that would please everyone. Many different wars between Sweden and Denmark and the tossing of Norway back and forth under different rulers lead to what Scandinavia is made up of now.
