I aimed and pulled the trigger, expecting a bright flash of light and the smell of gunpowder, but instead the gun responded with a faint click. I felt a surge of fear run through my body. My hand trembled and I dropped the gun. I then immediately fell back behind cover. My pursuer began firing upon me again; bullets were ricocheting off the brick wall that I was using for cover. Beads of sweat ran down my face as I waited for my chance to make a run for it. Finally, the machine gun fire stopped. At that moment, I ran out of the alleyway and into the street, and sprinted over the road towards my car. I leaped into the drivers seat and threw the suitcase into the back. My heart skipped a beat when the rear window smashed and I felt a bullet fly right past my head. I hurriedly found my keys and started the car as quickly as I could as I was being showered with bullets. When the engine finally turned, I hit the gas and sped down the street, I quickly glanced over my left shoulder and saw the silhouettes of the armed men quickly disappear. I breathed a sigh of relief while I drove quickly down the now quiet street.

After a few minutes of driving, I took a right turn and pulled over to the side of the road. I withdrew a cigarette from my pocket and lit it, taking a deep breath. I thought I was having a heart attack when I felt my phone vibrating from the inside pocket of my jacket. I took the phone from my pocket and brought it to my ear. "Hello?.."

"Good evening Tony, do you have what I asked for?"

I could tell from the deep rough voice that it was no one other than my current employer, Roger Bacon.

"Yes, I have the case." I answered.

"Well then, bring it around to the back of my restaurant in Lygon."

With that, he hung up. Was just about to butt out my cigarette when I noticed an old Magna flying around the in my rear vision mirror. I immediately recognised it as the same car that was parked out the front of the warehouse, which I raided only moments before. Alarmed, I threw the cigarette out the driver's side window and put the pedal to the metal.

I was pretty concerned when I noticed the Magna was quickly catching up, at the next intersection, I veered left and knocked over a garbage bin. In the rear vision mirror, I saw the passenger in the Magna was hanging out the window with a gun in his hand, aimed at me.

I freaked when I saw the gun. I started driving erratically, veering left and right, trying to throw off his aim. He managed to squeeze off a few rounds; I nearly jumped out of the seat when I heard one ricochet off the boot of the car. I saw a red light in the distance, but there was no way in hell I was going to slow down. I hit the gutter and was speeding down the sidewalk, beeping the horn, trying to warn the pedestrians so that they would get out of the way. I went flying past the lights and turned right down Lygon Street. I was less than a kilometre away from Bacon's bar.

I wiped the sweat from my forehead; I thought I had finally lost my pursuers.

I checked the rear vision mirror just to make sure, and the road was empty. I slowed down and began to relax, when I heard the screeching of rubber behind me. I immediately looked over my shoulder, and saw the magna fly around the corner, tail whipping a streetlight. I nearly lost all bowel control, and I put my foot to the floor.

My perusers began firing upon me, yet again. I tried my hardest to throw off their aim, when I heard one of my rear tires burst. I began spinning out of control and I could feel my heart beating racing when the car smashed sidelong into Bacon's bar.

I could see stars dancing about my face when I came to my senses. I looked out the passenger window and saw the Magna come to a halt about 0 metres away from me. I threw myself to the floor of the car, and I attempted to open the glove box, but I was shocked when I realized I could no longer feel my left arm. I struggled to get my right arm out from under me, and I opened the glove box. I reached inside and grasped hold of the handle of my trusty Beretta.

I kicked open the drivers side door, and rolled out of the car. I looked underneath and I saw two pairs of legs making their way towards me. I carefully aimed my gun and shot one of them in the shin. He screamed a cry of pain and fell to the ground. I got up onto my knees and looked over the bonnet, I saw the downed man reach for his pocket. I quickly aimed and fired twice at him, hitting him in the shoulder and stomach, incapacitating him as he slowly slumped face first into the ground.

I stood there for a moment, looking at the bleeding corpse. Then I began glancing left and right, when I remembered that there was still another gunman after me. Something nudged me in the back. "Drop the gun." Ordered the gunman.

I hesitated for a moment, quickly thinking of the different options I had. But in the end, I surrendered, realizing that there was no way out of my current predicament. I loosened the grip on my gun, and I heard it clatter on the ground. A feeling of terror overwhelmed me when I heard him cock his gun, I was sure he was going to shoot me. I felt a single bead of sweat run down from my neck to my lower back, as I awaited death.

BAM!!

Nothingness…. I heard the gunman collapse behind me. I opened my eyes and turned around. And there he was, Roger Bacon, wielding a shotgun with two smoking barrels.

"Tony! Where's the case?" Asked Bacon.

"It's in the car, just give me a minute." I finally replied when I snapped out of my trance.

I picked up my Beretta and went to my car. I opened the back door and was very relieved when I saw that the suitcase survived the trip unscathed. I picked up the case, and from there we went into the bar. Bacon guided me to his office and opened the door, and I followed him inside. I handed the suitcase over to Bacon and then he laid it out on his desk.

"Just out of curiosity, what the bloody hell is in this case that is so damn important?" I asked.

"Let's just say that some of my hard earned money found it's way into the wrong hands." He replied as he took a seat at his desk..

When he was comfortable, Bacon began to unlatch the suitcase. And when he did, it made a rather abrupt beeping noise. I raised my eyebrow as I studied his confused face, and then the suitcase. He looked at me and shrugged, and then turned his attention back to the case. He laid it back down, and flipped the case open.

Bacon's jaw dropped, and his face went pale. "ITS A BOMB!! RUN!!!" He yelled.

I cursed loudly and ran for the entrance…
