In what ways do Romeo and Juliet stand out as Characters?

In one of the most recognised plays of all time "Romeo and Juliet" would have to have characters that stand out and make the audience feel as if they have known these people for more "the two hours of the stage". This play makes you experience real emotions for the characters by putting them in a situation, which seems so real because it's about love, a thing that most of us have experienced at one time or another.

One thing that strikes oneself when reading the start of the play is how the parents treat their children. Both sets are obviously very rich, so maids or servants care for them leaving bonds between parent and child restricted. This has certain effects on them so when the parents do try and talk its extremely difficult. Romeo's parents distance themselves from him, as they do not completely understand him. This forces them to have his cousin Benvolio, the person closest to Romeo to try and keep track of his whereabouts and feelings

LM "O where is Romeo? Saw you him today?"

B "Madam, an hour before the worshipped sun…"

This is why they let him roam with a fair amount of freedom and hope that his cousin is good enough for him. Romeo though has other plans, and looks towards the friar for comfort and often to solve his problems too.

The Capulet family have a different approach to treating their daughter, even though they do tend to distance themselves they still keep her very controlled and close to them because as their only heir to the family fortune they don't want her to get into unnecessary trouble and would guard her chastity very tightly. Here the father, a very demanding figure wants her to marry Paris only for the reason that he is a rich man and if they wed then their financial status will be secured

"In all respects by me; nay more, I doubt it not.

Wife, go you to her ere you go to bed,

Acquaint her here of my son Paris's love,

And bid her-mark you me-on Wednesday next."

Of course by her fathers actions she acquires rebellious ways but these backfire with disastrous consequences when she speaks of her troubles to her father concerning her wish not to marry Paris

C "And you be mine, I'll give you to my friend;

And you be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets."

She naturally strays from her father because of his arrogance and steers clear of the mother because of her juvenility, inaccessibility and coldness

LC "(talking about Juliet) This is the matter. Nurse, give leave a while,

We must talk in secret. Nurse, come back again."

So she keeps close to her Nurse. The Nurse being a caring having lost a child herself but sloth like in her duties. Juliet relates to her as her own mother by asking for advice and the nurse obviously feels the same way as she goes and chases up Romeo and interrogates him like any mother would upon finding out Juliet's love for him. She also is prepared to lie and play dangerously for Juliet as she cares for Juliet's feelings very much

Romeo is melancholic which is plain to see when Benvolio is explaining to Romeo's parents about his recent activities

"And gladly shunned who gladly fled from me." He tries to shadow this by being alone much of the time. In a recent Hollywood adaptation of the play Romeo is seen writing some poetry, about mostly his rejected love for Rosaline and this sums up his character well

"And private in his chamber pens himself,

Shuts up his windows, locks fair daylight out."

Further proof about his melancholic personality trying to be hidden is his use of language in a conversation. Romeo is very sharp and can talk himself out of an uncomfortable situation whenever he feels like it. He has no willingness to make friends either, especially as the friends he knows now are far much less intelligent than him causing him to be fed up with people. He sometimes mocks the other person's intelligence as we can see with Benvolio here

R "Dost thou not laugh?"

B "No, coz, I rather weep."

R "Good heart, at what?"

B "At thy good heart's oppression."

Another good example of his sharpness,

"Not I, believe me. You have dancing shoes with nimble soles, I have a soul of lead."

Romeo's personality does change though but only when he is around his love Juliet. His language changes to a positive state and we can see this when he uses hyperbolic sentences

"Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven,

Having some business, do entreat her eyes

To twinkle in their spheres till they return."

There is also evidence that he doesn't think that much of himself but many people think he is testing her intelligence with verbal games and he clearly enjoys it as no one else really understands him like her. Here he says that he is nothing compared to Juliet, her hand is a shrine and Romeo is a pilgrim

"If I profane with my unworthiest hand

This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this,

My lips two blushing pilgrims…"

Destiny and being star-crossed lovers bring these two together. Destiny plays a heavy part in Shakespeare's day (as the theory went that the stars controlled everyone and no one could prevent or change their future.) So idea is featured heavily in the relationship between the two as the stars features many times in the conversations

R "Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven," Shakespeare seems almost obsessed with foreshadowing the tragedy that will eventually engulf these "star-crossed lovers" and involves other people to predict it too

FriL "And thou art wedded to calamity."

The Blair-Hitch Project

"When people decided not to confront fascism, they were doing the popular thing, they were doing it for good reasons and they were good people… but they made the wrong decision."

This is Tony Blair suggesting that Saddam Hussein is as much of a threat to world democracy as Adolf Hitler, but how much of a threat is Saddam Hussein to Britain.

It is true that he is a cruel dictator who has a blatant disregard for human rights, but it is unlikely he has yearnings for universal conquest and world domination as Adolf Hitler proved he did.

Cheap Custom Essays on The Blair Hitch Project

It has not been categorically proven that Iraq possesses weapons of mass destruction; Iraq however does possess weapons which could be deemed "unpleasant', weapons which ironically were "acquired' from Britain and America. The USA sold Iraq anthrax, West Nile Virus and Botuliniol Toxin in the 180s. United Nations weapons inspectors have revealed certain weapons but so far, even these reports are not conclusively damning. Since the last gulf war in 11 Saddam Hussein's "progress' as a world dictator has been forcefully controlled by international force.

On Friday 8th February 00 Hans Blix, the UN's chief weapons inspector stated that Iraq had promised to destroy their illegal Samoud II missiles which he optimistically declared to be "a very significant piece of real disarmament." Even to the most cynical observer, this reveals a certain degree of uncharacteristic co-operation on Saddam's part in a probable effort to avoid war. However amongst these cynics Mr George W Bush and Mr Tony Blair refuse to be accounted for.

Tony Blair, the prime minister of the democratic United Kingdom continues to ignore these gestures. Accused of being America's Poodle, Tony Blair attacked this argument by saying

"I believe in it (the war). I am truly committed to dealing with this, irrespective of the position of America, if the Americans were not doing this, I would be pressing for them to do so."

For all of Saddam Hussein's in-humanitarian ways towards sectors of his own people, the argument that this is a human rights issue falls historically flat. Britain has refused to intervene against the atrocities committed by the dictatorship in Zimbabwe led by Robert Mugabe and ignores the fact that North Korea is building nuclear missiles, so why is Iraq different?

At least 0% of British people said they would not support a war under any circumstances. There is a fear that it will lead to the deaths of countless thousands of innocent people in Iraq or even a full blown nuclear war, a situation far worse then the atrocities committed by Saddam Hussein. There is also the worry that a pre- emptive attack on Iraq would be seen by the Islamic world as a direct attack on Islam which could seem to justify further terrorist attacks against the West.

Many people believe that war should be only a last resort.

Certain members of the United Nations including France and Germany do not agree to the war; if the UN were more uniformly decided about the war being a last resort it may have more support from the British public. However, both Bush and Blair are under the impression that Saddam is linked with al-Qaeda, the terrorist organisation who undertook the attacks on the Pentagon in Washington and the World Trade Centre towers in New York on September 11 00. Understandably, Blair is worried that our own /11 may come, however Saddam Hussein was not directly linked with these acts of terrorism, and al-Qaeda appears to operate in a number of countries and would undoubtedly still exist. Unfortunately Tony Blair's supporting argument for war has changed from day to day. Originally it was Iraq's links with terrorism. Then it was Saddam's possession of "weapons of mass destruction'. Finally, only a fortnight ago, the Prime Minister was going to war to liberate the downtrodden people of Iraq. It would seem that the British Prime Minister is resolute in his decision to fight but unfortunately his motives lack this discipline. There are also many who believe that the horrors of the regime in Iraq were insufficient justification for an aggressive war, whose aim, if these considerations were the main objective would be a change of regime. As well as this, America is believed to have other motives which are, shall we say "questionable'.

The Prime Minister suggests he wants a quick end to the conflict

"If you act early, you have to do less, fewer people get hurt and you reduce the possibility that it spreads."

However, going to war to replace Saddam will not guarantee that he is replaced with someone better. In deed this has lead to claims of imperialism by opponents of the American plan with their intention of destabilising Iraq, replacing Saddam with some American Puppet. Tony Blair defended the United States by saying,

"The US will not stay in Iraq a day longer than they have to. The idea that this is some kind of American imperialism is completely absurd."

Although Downing Street's main hope is that the US-British threat could force president Saddam to disarm without a shot being fired, Blair is still pushing for the war.

On Wednesday the 6th of February, one hundred and twenty one MP's rebelled against Blair's policies on the war, this was the largest revolt against a prime minister in over one hundred years, you would think that this and the thirty percent of the British public completely against any war, would ring alarm bells. Perhaps it is time for Tony Blair to step back from the brink and follow such nations as China, France, Germany, Russia and Syria in thinking that inspection time should be extended and the weapons inspectors' and surveillance equipment added to before responding to the call to arms.

If you order your research paper from our custom writing service you will receive a perfectly written assignment on How to get a basketball Scholarship?. What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Order your How to get a basketball Scholarship? paper at affordable prices ! Do you have big dreams of playing your favorite sport of basketball at the college level , but have no idea how to secure your dreams ? Well if your name is not Lebron James or one of those outstanding athletes with countless school programs knocking down your door, then this is your opportunity to reach out and secure your vision. I, myself have great dreams of playing basketball on the college level and maybe the professional level also. And I'm positive that I'm close to achieving my goals because I've had the opportunity of speaking one on one with recruiters from some of the best athletic programs in the nation. I think it would be accurate to assert that they have imparted to me knowledge and expertise of the necessary components of a prospective recipient of an athletic scholarship. The most important thing you can do as a player is make sure you worry about what you can do to help yourself. In the overall process, a potential player may be overlooked or not recruited by a program for various reasons. Regardless of the reason, your personal goal is to be an individual who is not overlooked. These are three steps that you should consider in order to make that basketball scholarship a reality. You need to practice hard, study hard, and maintain a great attitude. The first and most important point to comprehend is that scholarships are earned not handed out . Thus, in order to make yourself scholarship material you have to practice. You have to put yourself in the best possible position to be noticed and evaluated. The only way to do this is to dedicate yourself to the pursuit of perfection. So if it takes 500 jump shots a day or running 0 laps around the gym or hours in the weight room every day, then it's definitely worth it. The important thing though is to practice the fundamentals, which is basically the simplest but most effective way to play the game. Truth is, college recruiters absolutely love players who are fundamentally sound. But don't let all this time spent on your individual skills blind your eyes to the fact that you are part of a team. And though coaches like players with exceptional individual skills, they definitely love players who make their teams better. Teamwork is essential and success is the by-product of outstanding leadership inspired by selfless commitment. So don't forget that basketball is 10% physical and 0% mental. Therefore, your intellect is imperative in getting that greatly desired scholarship. Maintaining excellent grades is a good way of sending a message to college coaches that you are serious about your future . You must understand that coaches are looking for students who understand the importance of their education. For example, I knew of a player who was a very good basketball prospect. This boy could jump out the gym, but he didn't keep his head in his books. He felt as though his amazing talent could make up for the fact that he didn't do well in school. So don't let your grades stand in the way of that scholarship offer because even one low grade could make the difference. You can control how much effort you put into your studying ; also keep in mind that the better your grades are the greater the number of schools, who will look at you. Also SAT scores can make a difference with the caliber of schools that you attract. A combination of a high grade point average and a good SAT score could make your dream of getting that scholarship a reality. With improved basketball skills and the improved grades, all we need now to complete this package is the right attitude. The quickest way to not get a scholarship is to be a problem child; coaches today don't want to deal with bad attitudes, selfish players , guys with baggage, guys who hang out with the wrong crowds... you get the message. Understand that college coaches are working to find out more about you than you could ever imagine. They talk to your teachers, guidance counselors, your coach, your teammates, and basically anyone that can give them an idea of what you are like. The kid that is such a great player, but maintains such a humble glow is priceless. That guy that can draw the attention of everyone that he comes into come into contact with, because he captivates them with his smile and his breathtaking presence. Those three points should give you a good start on the process of attaining a scholarship. Also critical to this entire process, is for you, your parents and your parents to sit down and come up with an honest appraisal of your game. All players aren't major college players. What matters most is the enjoyment you get from it not what level you play on. Many times you may come across miserable Division 1 players and on the other hand, very happy Division and players. But you know what after all that hard work and all that fake smiling you better be happy at the highest college level. God knows, I would be.

Our staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in earth, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your earth paper at affordable prices ! How was the Earth formed? There have been many different theories and ideas of how the Earth came to be. One is the Big Bang Theory. This theory states that the universe started with a giant explosion, the Big Bang. This explosion was extremely hot and when it cooled enough atoms were created to form mass. For years the scientific world has wrestled with this question. Because of the extensive tests, and logical theories, I believe the Big Bang Theory to be the answer to the question.

Many tests have been done throughout time to prove this intangible theory, the Big Bang. Albert Einstein's equations said that the universe must be expanding or contracting. This all came together when isotropy and homogeneity came into the picture. Homogeneity is evidence that from place to place the average density of matter does not vary. Isotropy says that the direction in space one looks does not change what they see. According to Einstein's equations the distribution of matter in the universe will remain homogeneous. Concluding that space itself expands or contracts. The distribution between two points would be increasing the faster they would move apart. That would only be if it were expanding (Compton's Encyclopedia 1). I think that Einstein's equations were great evidence toward the Big Bang but much more was to come. Scientists believed that as the earth cooled it expanded. Protons began to form after about one second. The isotope of hydrogen was formed in what they call the "first three minutes." Hydrogen atoms only absorb and emit certain wavelengths. Some wavelengths had been interfering with the free electrons. Today, we can detect free radiation from that change billions of years ago. After cooling cosmic background radiation was formed and first detected in 165. COBE, the Cosmic Background Explorer spacecraft mapped the cosmic background radiation. The distribution of this was matched to the matter that emits radiation because of its temperature. This was predicated for the Big Bang (Microsoft Encarta & ). Going back to the "first three minutes", other elements such as helium, deuterium, and lithium were formed. They have been observed in abundance by many scientists (The Big Bang Theory 1). All of these tests have helped prove that the Big Bang started it all.

Theories pertaining to the Big Bang have been discovered by a plethora of scientists. In 105, Einstein published his special theory of relativity. Before space and time were thought to have nothing to do with each other. This theory showed that they are related and should be together so it was called space-time. Albert published his general theory of relativity in 116. This related space-time to the distribution of matter in the universe (Compton's Encyclopedia 1). His equations said that if the universe's density of matter were equal to certain critical value then it would continue expanding and become slower and eventually stop. If the universes average density is below this certain critical value it will expand forever. Bit if it is above this value then there will be a reversal of the Big Bang called the "Big Crunch". Now, it is twenty times smaller which states that the universe is open (Compton's Encyclopedia ). These theories seem pretty solid and the evidence that the universe is open is very strong. Just think, though, what if the universe was closed or what if there was a "Big Crunch"? A man named Alexander Friedmann came up with some solutions for Einstein's equations, which gave some framework on the Big Bang Theory. In the 140's George Gamow found out a theory that matched Friedmann's. He said the universe expanded from a hot, dense state (Microsoft Encarta 1). These theories that started with Albert Einstein gave scientists today a great start.

Edwin Hubble discovered another type of theory. He discovered that the light of distant galaxies is universally shifted. Where did it shift? Well, it shifted to the red end of the spectrum. This means that the galaxies are moving away from each other. He found that the further apart they were the faster they moved (Microsoft Encarta 1). This change, this shift in light was called Redshift. This helps to indicate an object's motion. Scientists have used redshifts to measure velocities of distant galaxies. Velocities of other galaxies are important because that is how they determine if the university is changing. Also it helps predict its distant future. The redshift only occurs if an object is moving (Redshift 1). Hubble also came up with an equation to see if the universe is open or closed. V=Hr is the equation. It expresses the velocity of the expansion. You need this equation because the decrease in expansion rate tells if the universe is open or closed. This is what each variable stands for V= velocity, r = distance between two points, H = Hubble's constant. Hubble's constant relates velocity and distance. Hubble's constant decreases faster if the universe is closed. To measure H, you have to measure the brightness of distant galaxies. This is misleading, because the distance that needs to measured breaks down (Compton's Encyclopedia ). This may not be the best way to find if the universe is open or closed, but there are other ways. One such way is measuring the age of the universe, which is the time since the Big Bang. It is called Hubble time. This is expressed as 1/H. If the actual age of the universe is less than / of Hubble time, then it's closed (Compton's Encyclopedia ). There are many theories behind the Big Bang Theory that explain how the universe got here.

In the 10's a certain magazine held a contest for a better name or euphemism for this theory, but the "Big Bang" stuck. This giant explosion is said to be the reason for the universe forming. Although there are other thoughts and ideas of how the Earth came to be, the Big Bang Theory seems to make the most scientific sense. Its many proven tests and reasonable theories makes this theory the most logical.

Order your Population Trends in Newfoundland paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! A population can be defined as "a group of individuals of the same species inhabiting an area" (Enger & Smith, 00). Populations generally have certain defining characteristics that distinguish them from other populations. Theses include "natality (birthrate), mortality (death rate), sex ratio, age distribution, growth rates, density, and spatial distribution" (Enger & Smith, 00). The population of Newfoundland is, in this way, no different from any other. It has experienced many trends in population over the years, each trend having major societal impacts on the province.

In 1 and 1, the population of Newfoundland reached a record 580,00 people (Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, 00). Since then, the population has continually declined. On March 1, 00 Statistics Canada released the 001 Census Counts which indicated that since 16 the population of the province has declined by 7.0% (Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, 00). Nevertheless, population losses have become much smaller over the last three years corresponding to a stronger growth period in the provincial economy. The amount of out-migration, a major component of population change, has gone down in pervious years. This decrease is due to strong employment gains, wage growth and a general increase in consumer and business confidence. While these factors have caused out-migration to diminish, net losses are expected to continue in the near future (Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, 00).

Another major trend that is seen here in Newfoundland is a loss of natural population increase. Natural increase, the excess of births over deaths, was only around 150 persons in 001, the lowest natural population increase since Confederation. If this trend continues, it is believed that the province will soon see natural population losses. With low fertility rates, the number of children born per woman per lifetime, the number of births in the future will drop leaving the province with an aging population that will have increased death rates (Collins, 00).

If these two trends are combined (decreased number of births and more deaths) it is easy to see that the average age of the population will continue to rise. As stated in the text book, if the majority of the population is post reproductive, the population will decline (Enger & Smith, 00). This increase in age will be more apparent in the rural communities than in the urban communities of the province due to the smaller populations. As a result, the province's population is expected to become more urban. If the province's population becomes more urban it is easy to see that there will also be a shift in the need for both private and public services. An example of this sort of shift in need would be that the demand for recreational or educational services would decrease while the demand for health services would increase in the rural areas (Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, 00). With an increased trend in the province's population age towards a post reproductive category, a reduction in the labour supply could come about in the future. In 001 the population of people ages 15 44 (Enger & Smith, 00), as know as the persons that have the potential to enter the labour force, out-numbered the potential retirees. But when looking at the current population trends for the province of Newfoundland, it is predicted that the potential retirees will out-number those that can enter the work force. This is good in some aspects because it will lower the unemployment rates, increase incomes and possibly decrease the out-migration and boost in-migration as the chances of gaining employment in this province are amplified.

Cheap Custom Essays on Population Trends in Newfoundland

In recent years employers have noticed and are paying more attention to these trends. Many are making plans now and executing human resources strategies in preparation for future changes. Some companies such as the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOCC) at Labrador City and industry associations such as the Alliance of Manufacturers and Exporters recognize the cumulative impacts of these factors and are implementing successor planning, mentorship programs and other recruitment actions (Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, 00). For example, up to 50% of the Iron Ore Company of Canada's workforce is eligible for retirement by 004. In addressing this issue, IOCC is recruiting and training new workers to fill these vacant positions. In partnership with the College of the North Atlantic and its member unions, the company began a new apprentice training program in 1 which combines in-class training with on the job experience. This program, named Mining and Mineral Processing Technology, is seen as an innovative and meaningful way to prepare for demographic change and to train the mining employee of the future (Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, 00).

In conclusion, Newfoundland is facing a decline in population. The population is also becoming more centered in urban areas than in the past and is becoming an increasingly aging population. These factors have serious effects on the future work force and also place more burden on the health care system. By becoming aware of these trends now, measures can be taken to ensure the well-being of our population in the years to come as well as in future populations of this province.

Macbeth

Was Macbeth a tragic hero? Or was he a crazed serial killer who thrived upon the killings of both friends and enemies? Shakespeare's knowledge of human nature was confirmed again by this tragedy, which reflects the idea of crime and consequence. Macbeth is the story of a well - respected soldier, whose ambition is his fatal weakness. The timely prophecies of three witches about his future confirm his ambition of becoming king and aided by his cunning wife who shares his desires he is driven to evil. In this essay I will try to prove that he had "vaulting ambition" rather than just being a cold - blooded murderer.

Macbeth has all the qualities of a classic Shakespearean tragic hero. He was of high birth and position, Thane of Glamis and co-leader with best friend Banquo of the king's army. Although co-leader the king speaks of him more frequently than his counterpart and therefore I consider him the senior out of the two. This is confirmed in Act One Scene Two when Duncan receives reports back about the proceedings of the battles; at not one time in this report is there a mention of Banquo only of "Brave Macbeth" and without even Macbeth speaking a word you get the impression that he is a strong loyal character whom everyone respects.

Of all these features of a tragic hero the most important is his ambition, which is played upon by circumstances. I consider this very important as Macbeth's ambition was triggered by the prophecies of the witches. There is also a hint of evil in Macbeth from the first time he talks " so foul and fair a day I have not seen" This echoes the first words of the witches "Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair"! This I believe is more than coincidental. The witch's prophecies are "All hail Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Glamis! The second is All hail Macbeth, hail to thee Thane of Cawdor! And "All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter" These prophecies are to the play as the thoughts of becoming king have already tempted Macbeth and I believe the witches knew this. When the witch's prophesise that MacBeth shall be king, he starts as in fear this shows initially that he had at least some sort of conscious. The suggestion is that is that they give utterance to his own secret thought. When they vanish instead of answering Banquo's question "good sir, why do you start, and seem to fear things that do sound so fair" he exclaims "would they had stay'd" Banquo however is surprised by Macbeths reaction to what seem so "fair" not knowing that fair words have provoked evil thoughts twice already in the play.

Lady Macbeth is a very important character in the play. As I believe that it is her taunts that eventually makes up Macbeths mind into killing his friend and king .As in Act One Scene Seven Macbeth leaves the supper he has prepared for Duncan early. At this moment he speaks a crucial soliloquy in the play. He shows his concern towards the projected murder. He gives three reasons for not performing the murder "First, I am his kinsman and his subject both strong against the deed; then as, his host". The second reason is "he is here in double trust" and finally "Besides, this Duncan hath borne his faculties so meek, hath been so clear in his great office". At this point Macbeth openly admits that ambition is the only reason to kill the king " I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself, and falls on th' other" and this is the first time he does so as he knows all to well the horrors of what he is proposing to do. As Lady Macbeth enters Macbeth tells her he will not go through with the murder of Duncan and she accuses him of not loving her and disgracing his manhood. She describes him as to full of "the milk o' the human kindness" an extra-ordinary statement in the light of the murders he commits. This act is vital and without the influence of the witches and his wife Macbeth show that Macbeth would not have murdered Duncan as he shows weaknesses before and after the murder. Throughout the play MacBeth shows a sense of morality. A good example of this is the banquet scene. This scene suggests he is becoming mentally unhinged as he to sees an apparition of the murdered Banquo. Before he sees the ghost he is a good host and very welcoming of his guests but when told Banquo's son Fleance has escaped from the murderers he say" here comes my fit again".

The last act of the play is emotional as it shows that Macbeth is not just a cold-blooded murderer as he has regrets about his life, " I have lived long enough. My way of life is fallen into the sear, the yellow leaf; And that which should accompany old age, as honour, love, obedience, troops of friends," Ironically these are qualities of Duncan the king he murdered had and I feel he saw Duncan as someone to be admired. That's why he had such difficulty killing him In the second last scene Macbeth became his old self a warrior in battle who believed he was invincible due to the second set of witch's prophecies. This stated he could not be killed by a man who was woman born he was indomitable until to Birnam wood came to Dunsinane, Hectate, the head of the witches warned him to beware Macduff and as it turned out Macduff was not of woman born, as he was "untimely ripp'd" from his mother's womb. Mac duff's final taunt inspires Macbeth to fight to the death and not imitate the ancient Romans who thought it was honourable to commit suicide when faced with overwhelming odds" Why should I play the Roman fool and die on mine own sword" an admirable ending for a true hero.

The ending proves that Macbeth was primarily a warrior, though succumbing to the temptation that the witches a proposed to him, it's courage I came to admire the most about him confirmed when he declared at his death scene" I will not yield" He will take on his fate as well as Macduff "yet I will try to the last". While it does not mitigate the crimes it does enable us to see the return of the valiant warrior whom was lavished with praise in the first scene by his superiors.

An offer is an expression of willingness to contract on certain terms with the intention that it shall become binding as soon as it is accepted by the person to whom it is deal with. It is a manifestation of a willingness to be bound by contract. Other than that, an offer means a signification by one person to another person of his willingness to enter into a contract with him on certain terms. The offer will usually indicate the form the acceptance should take and may indicate when the acceptance will be deemed to have occurred. In seeking to prove that a contract was in existence, it will be necessary to show that there was a definite offer.

Advertisements of unilateral contracts are treated as offers. An advertisement to general public for a reward to anyone who does something is treated as an offer. If the offer forms the basis for a unilateral contract, it can be difficult to revoke. Typically the offeror must take reasonable steps to revoke the offer in the same form as it was originally made. For example, if the offer was made in a newspaper, then it should probably be revoked the same way. Moreover, it is particularly problematic if a unilateral offer is revoked before full completion of the act that constitutes the acceptance. In Carlill v Carbolic Smoke Ball Co (18), Mrs. Carlill was able to demonstrate that she had completed the acceptance, so Carbolic could not have escaped its obligations be revoking the offer. However, suppose Mrs. Carlill had started using the Smoke Ball, and written to Carbolic expressing her wish to claim the compensation if it failed.

An advertisement for reward to anyone who provides information leading to a conviction is treated as offer too. There is an R v Clarke (17) case where Clarke claimed a reward of ͘1000 for providing information, which resulted in the conviction of two murderers. The facts are set out in the head note to the case. Clarke knew of the reward offer but, it was alleged, he gave the information to get himself off the hook after he was arrested for the murder. So, this case does not illustrate the proposition that a person cannot accept an offer if that person did not know about it. Instead, the High Court was prepared to infer from the circumstance what Clarke's state of mind was and came to the conclusion that he did not have the reward offer in his mind when he provided the vital information. He was responding to something quite different, namely, fear for his own fate.

On the other hand, an invitation to treat is an invitation to open negations with a view to forming a contract. In English Law, an invitation to treat is not an offer, and its acceptance does not constitute the formation of a contract. There are many instances where invitations to treat are misconstrued as offers. For example, if a shop displays goods for sale with a price label attached, they are not obligated to sell for the market price. This is because displaying goods for sale is an invitation to treat, not an offer. There are cases such as Fischer v Bell (161) and Partridge v Crittendon (168). In Fisher v Bell (161) case, the defendant, a shopkeeper, was prosecuted for displaying an illegal flick-knife for sale. Because it is an offense to offer such an item foe sale he was convicted. On appeal, however, it was held that "offer for sale" has a technical meaning in law, and a shop window display is an invitation to treat, no an offer in contractual terms. The conviction was therefore quashed. While in the case of Partridge v Crittendon (168), the defendant advertised in a newspaper "framble finch cocks and hens 5 shillings each" offering a wild bird for sale is contrary to the Protection of Birds Act (154). It was construed that this advertisement was an invitation to treat, not an offer in contractual terms, and he was acquitted.

Goods displayed on self-service shelves or counter in a shop or pharmacy is also invitation to treat. The case Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain v Boots (15) demonstrates the principle that in-point-of-sale transactions the offer for sale and acceptance of that offer is deemed to take place at the checkout, and that displaying goods on shelves does not constitute an offer for sale. The Pharmaceutical Society brought a case against Boots for selling "poisons" without the supervision of a registered pharmacist, contrary to the pharmacy and Poisons Act (1). Customers would place their intended purchases in a basket, then take them to the checkout for purchases. The plaintiffs argued that displaying the goods constituted an offer, and placing goods in the basket an acceptance of offer. This argument was not accepted, as the cashier was, by common practice, free to refuse the sale, so the selection of good for purchase could not be construed a contract.

Some kinds of request to tender will also be construed as invitation to treat. According to Blackpool and Flyde Aero Club v Blackpool Borough Club (10) a request to tender may, however, constitute an offer to consider the tender; such that a person who submits a tender, which is ignored, may have a cause of action.

In conclusion, an invitation to treat is preliminary to an offer. The different between an offer and an invitation to treat lies in the intention of the parties. It has to be noted that invitation to treat are not capable of being accepted. This is because invitation to treat does not display any sort of intention o be bound. It means that an invitation to treat is in law an invitation to make offer and it is not the offer itself for example where a party is merely inviting offers, which he is free to accept or reject.

In today's society one of America's biggest flaws is the mere fact that a person can be judged based on his or her job class, education, income and most of all race. America encourages the three most deadly acts of racism by supporting Victimology, Separatism and Anti-intectualism in America.

Victimology has become a big part of cultural blackness because the victim is treated not as the problem to be solved but as an identity to be nurtured. Instead of America dealing with the situation we glorify the act for example in Oakland this past year we witnessed a hundred and fourteen murders. Every time I picked up a newspaper or turned on the television all they talked about was how bad Oakland was becoming not how can we solve some of these murders or what can we do to rid our city of so many notorious acts of violence. Simply calling attention to things that barely exists is Victimology because just the fact of alienating and resenting things in society is pinpointing things that may not necessarily be fact. Its like bringing unnecessary attention to something that is minor. I read something that some this up and it goes like this, "don't sweat the small stuff because all stuff is small stuff."

Separatism is a condition or the advocacy of political, religious, or racial separation. This is directly related to Victimology because it encourages black Americans to conceive the notion that as a people we are unofficial sovereign entities. Separatism in black American culture is the product of white Americans who create a very hostile environment where blacks are not the authority but a mere pond in a chess game. There are many symptoms of Separation but what stands out is conviction because

Order custom research paper on Losing the race

the way society tries to justify separation says that blacks are not responsible for there actions but are merely playing out there frustration and pain that has been places on them from past acts of ignorance. Think about the O.J. Simpson case was it fair to hole him accountable for the murders or even mention the facts about the case? Maya Angelou said,"let the black folks take care of "Simpson, because in black America he would be shown his mistakes rather than be treated as a murder in which he probably was. See in black America when a predominant figure falls like an O.J. Simpson it affects not only himself but the entire black community.

To me Separatism does a disservice to black America because when someone in the black race commits an act it is justified by racism. He or she did this because of the white man or I can not get ahead because the white man will not allow me to. I can not blame societys racism on my well being because I feel like whatever I put into my education is what I will get out of it, so if I work hard and thank God things will happen.

The third act of racism is Anti-intellectualism which means to be against the quality of being intellectual. This is not caused by our own racism, funding, class, parental education but by our white America denying us the right to be educated for so many years. This is so evident because I once witness two students one white and the other black get a letter grade of an "A" on a test paper and I recall the teacher saying to the black student you must have studied with the white student. This was another blow to the black community because that teacher assume that the black student was incapable of getting an "A" by himself. Just like most teachers see me and they assume I just a dump basketball player getting by because I can dribble a ball but they do not know I am a full

time student with a job and a family. They do not know how hard I work just to get up in the morning. Anti-intellectualism says that we live in a culture of internal infection nurtured by a distrust of the former oppressor which I can kind of agree with but my question is what are we doing as black America to get out of this situation if we know who our oppressor are? To justify our unequal distribution of educational resources as the root for black students grades and test scores regardless of class or income level is an excuse because as a black race we have always had to overcome some type of obstacle. It just the way life has always been and as long as we dwell on those type of issues we will always be held back.

In conclusion until we deal with America's biggest set backs of Victimology, Separatism and Anti-intellectualism there will always be two types of Americas', black America and white America. In order to billed on our future we have to first learn from our past.

Our staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in Hamlet, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your Hamlet paper at affordable prices ! The tragedy of Hamlet by William Shakespeare is a play of deceit and revenge. "The Murder of Gonzago," which is a play-within-the-play, is a tool used by the character of Hamlet to reveal the deceit of his uncle Claudius and seek out revenge. During the play-within-the-play, through his words and actions, Hamlet opposes his philosophical views, goal of revenge and today's moral standards. The practicality of the scene and justification of Hamlet's actions are questionable.

Throughout much of the play, different characters spy on Hamlet. He is aware of most of these times and seems to be morally opposed to it. However, by using the play to get his uncle to confess, he is, in a sense, spying on him. Hamlet tells his friend Horatio to watch Claudius's actions during the play. He says to him, "Observe my uncle."(I.ii.85). Hamlet is telling Horatio to spy on Claudius although he was angry when Claudius and others spied on him.

Hamlet seems to have a respect for women. Throughout the whole play, despite his anger, he never disrespected his mother. The only time he was less than respectful towards Ophelia was in the nunnery scene, however, he was putting on his antic disposition. In this scene, Hamlet is particularly rude to Ophelia and his mother. He makes the comment to Ophelia, "What a fair thought to lie between maids' legs." (III.ii.15-16.). He also makes a sexual comment to Ophelia, telling her, "It would cost you a groaning to take off mine edge." (III.ii.7-74.). When Ophelia comments on the prologue of the play being brief, Hamlet remarks that it is "As a woman's love." (III.ii.174-175.). This remark could be directed on Ophelia's feelings towards him or Gertrude's feelings towards old Hamlet. He also notices and remarks to Ophelia how is mother is acting. He says, "For look how cheerfully my mother looks, and my father died within's two hours." (III.ii.1-15.). Hamlet is extremely disrespectful towards both his mother and Ophelia, despite actions in the beginning of the play that show he has a deep respect for women.

Hamlet also seems opposed to deceiving other people. He is angry with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern for acting deceitful towards him. Nevertheless, he is angry with Claudius for acting as if nothing happened and is using the play and the players to trick him into revealing his guilt. Hamlet is also deceiving everyone into thinking he is insane. Although he is opposed to deceit, he is using it as a weapon himself.

Hamlet's actions are practical in this case because he is pretending to be crazy so he could use that as an excuse for putting aside any views he might have about proper conduct. While they are practical, his actions are not justifiable. No person should throw aside his values and philosophies under any circumstances.

Hamlet's behavior also opposes his goal of revenge. His goal is to observe Claudius's actions during the play; instead he is loud and disruptive. After the player Queen talks about marrying the man who killed her husband, Hamlet screams out, "That's wormwood." (III.ii.04.). Also during the play, Hamlet emphasizes parts of the play he wants Claudius to take notice to. For example, "You shall see anon how the murderer gets the love of Gonzago's wife." (III.ii.8-0.). Hamlet wants to see how Claudius reacts to the play itself, yet he stirs him up by yelling out parts of the plot. Claudius may suspect what Hamlet is trying to do.

Hamlet's orders by the ghost of his father were to not involve his mother in his revenge. He however makes the comment about how cheerfully she looks and when Polonius tells him that the Queen wants to speak with him, Hamlet ignores him and changes the subject. (III.ii.404-407.). Hamlet seems to have a hard time keeping his mother in his revenge despite his father's request.

Hamlet's actions in terms of his goal of revenge were not very practical. He wanted to see Claudius's reaction to the play, however by interfering and emphasizing certain parts of the play, he may have lead Claudius to believe that he was suspicious of him. This may have given Claudius reason to not react in a way that would reveal his guilt. Hamlet's behavior is, however, justified in this case. He is angry with his mother and Claudius and is excited to reveal the truth. He may want to make Claudius's reaction more drastic by letting him know that he is aware of his crime. His actions towards his mother are justified because he is probably most hurt and angered by her.

Hamlet's words and actions would go against moral standards set today. His remarks to Ophelia could be considered harassment. Also, today, young people are expected to have a respect for their elders. Hamlet does not exert this in his actions towards Polonius. He ignores him while he is trying to talk to him and he makes fun of him. When Hamlet asks if he acted in plays, Polonius says, "I did enact Julius Caesar. I was killed I' th' Capitol. Brutus killed me." Hamlet replies, "It was a brute part of him to kill so capital a calf there." (III.ii.10-11.). While Polonius thinks Hamlet is complimenting him he is actually mocking him. Also, kids generally have a respect for their parents. Hamlet, however, is rude to both his mother and Claudius.

If Hamlet lived today, his actions would not be practical. They could potentially get him in a great deal of trouble. Ophelia could file a harassment suit against him. Also, since Polonius was so close to Claudius, he would probably report Hamlet's disrespect to him. Claudius would probably punish Hamlet for this. His actions are justified because all he would have to do is accuse Claudius of murder and his misconduct would quickly be forgotten.

Hamlet's behavior during the play-within-the-play is his way of putting on an antic disposition and attempting to reveal Claudius's guilt. It may go against his goal of revenge and today's moral standards, yet it can be justified. His anger and resentment cause his abnormal behavior. There is no justification, however, for going against his philosophical beliefs. Hamlet should not have compromised this for anything. Nevertheless, the actions of his uncle and his mother may have spoiled any sane thoughts he had. Most people probably would have reacted the same way Hamlet did during this scene.

I am writing to you from the new land. It is a very strange place. As the ship drew nearer to the harbor, there were other ships of different kinds and sizes. We soon anchored amongst them in some town. Many merchants and planters came on board. They put us in separate parcels and examined us attentively. They also made us jump, and pointed to the land, signifying we were to go there. Soon after we were all put down under the deck again. Many of the other men were trembling. I was scared also but did not let the others see since I am a warrior. The white people got some old slaves from the land to talk to us. We were told that we had to work, and were soon to go on land, where we should see many of our country people. This report eased us much, and sure enough, soon after we landed, there came to us Africans of all languages.

We were conducted immediately to the merchants yard, where we were all put up together, like sheep in a fold, without regard to sex or age. As every object was new to me, everything I saw filled me with surprise. What struck me first was that the houses were built with bricks and many levels. They were very different from those I had seen back home. While I was in this astonishment, one of my fellow prisoners spoke to a countryman of his about the horses who said they were the same kind they had in their country. We were not many days in the merchants custody, before we were sold. At the beat of a drum, buyers rushed at once into the yard where we were confined. The white people make a choice of those that they like best. In this manner, relations and friends are separated, most of them never to see each other again.

Usually I have two regular meals in a day. I have breakfast after laboring from daylight, and supper when the work of the remainder of the day is over. During the harvest season I have three meals. My dress is of a cloth. The children wear nothing but a shirt. The older people have a pair of pantaloons or a gown in addition, if they are female. In the winter I have an overcoat, a wool hat, and a pair of coarse shoes.

I am lodged in a log hut, on the bare ground. The tops are partly open. There are many of us in a single room where we are huddled, like cattle, ten or a dozen persons, men, women, and children. My bed is a collection of straw and old rags, thrown down in the corners and boxed in with some boards and a single blanket the only covering. Some of the people sleep on a plank with their heads raised on an old jacket and their feet toasting before the fire. The wind whistles and the rain and snow blow in through the cracks, and the damp earth soaks the floor. I use my jacket as my pillow.

I am given an allowance weekly. It isn't much, mostly a peck of sifted corn meal, a dozen and a half herrings, and two and a half pounds of pork. Some of the boys would eat this up in three days, then they would have to steal, or they could not perform their daily tasks. They would visit the hog pen, sheep pen, and granaries to grab some food. I myself did this many times with others. We would run among the stumps in chase of a sheep that we might have something to eat. In regard to cooking, sometimes many have to cook at one fire, and before all could get to the fire the overseers horn would sound. Many times I have to eat only a piece of bread and meat, or herring broiled on the coals. At harvest time, the cooking is done at the great house, as the hands they have are wanted in the field. This made us feel more like people, and we like it, for we sit down then at meals. In the summer we have one pair of linen trousers. Every fall, we are allowed one pair of woolen pantaloons, one woolen jacket, and two cotton shirts.

From the period when the tobacco plants are set in the field, there is no resting time until it is housed. It is planted out early in the spring, and must be cut and taken out of the field before the frost comes. After it is hung and dried, the labor of stripping and preparing it for the hogshead in leaf, or of manufacturing it into twist, is comparatively a work of leisure and ease. On the very cold, snowy, or rainy weather days, the women are allowed to remain in the house.

My master has four sons in his family. They all left except one, who remained to be a driver. He would often come to the field and accuse one of us of having taken something. There are times, when we do not know that he is anywhere around. He would be in the woods watching us, first thing we would know, he would be sitting on the fence looking down upon us, and if any had been idle, the young master would visit him with blows. I have known him to kick this old woman who had raised and nursed him, and I have seen him punish others awfully in the woods.

We are constantly watched by the patrols, who ride about to try to catch us off the quarters, especially at the house of a free person of color. I have known some slaves to stretch clothes lines across the street, high enough to let the horse pass, but not the rider; then the boys would run, and the patrols in full chase would be thrown off by running against the lines. The patrols are poor white men, who live by plundering and stealing, getting rewards for runaways, and setting up little shops on the public roads. They will take whatever the slaves steal, paying in money, whiskey, or whatever the slaves want. They take pigs, sheep, wheat, corn or any thing that is raised. They almost encourage the slaves to steal. They then take these to the market the next day. When the slaves run away, these same traders catch them if they can, to get the reward.

It is a very different and hard life then I was used to back home. Every night I plan my escape. I do worry though that I will not get far and will be caught the next morning and whipped. When I fall asleep I dream of my nights back home with you and father. I have accepted this new life and also the fact that I will never be able to return back to Africa ever again. I just hope that I would be able to escape as some slaves already have. If I am able to make it into the northern border, I will be free again.

Love your son,

Order your Television's Influence paper at affordable prices ! Since the birth of television, the industry has been creating multiple shows and movies to keep us Americans entertained while doing nothing but sitting on our comfortable couch and observing a box. These shows and movies consist anywhere from children education programs to comedy with a little science fiction. Today, many Americans are raising issues saying that television is a waste of time and is too graphic. Are we being realistic? Are we to tell artists to stop painting too graphic and that it's a waste of time? Television is like art, it is never ending. Each American pursues their own taste and style. Television is where we visually see the different varieties of style. Whether someone wants to watch a horror film or "Entertainment Tonight" is his or her choice. Through one's perception, television may be observed as a positive influence.

Television may posses a positive influence in a matter of enhancing our personal status. Our personal appearance is one of the most important traits. Judging an individual by their appearance can tell a lot about a person's character. When we watch television, we notice that every person's appearance is perfect. For some of us, we pay attention to the big movie stars. The first words that come to mind when I think of movie stars are "famous and beautiful." The clothes are always expensive looking and very classy. Their face always has perfect skin complexion with no acme whatsoever. They each have their own unique hairstyle that someday we dream of having. We admire these movie stars so much that we try to look like them, dress like them, and even talk like them. I remember watching "Conan the Barbarian" when I was younger. Arnold Schwartzenegger had a body like a tank. His appearance was one of no other, pure barbaric. I wanted to be just like Arnold, having the same physical physique. Arnold's presence provided me with so much motivation that I joined a gym near my house and started training instantly. To this day, I am still training due to the appearance of Arnold Schwartzenegger. Advertisements may have a positive effect on our personal status as well. Observing all the expensive cars and real estate ads advertised on television might get you thinking twice about saving your money. Ever been to Hawaii? Well watch a commercial for a trip to Hawaii and you are destined to go there. Advertisements get your mind thinking positive and help us budget our money. The fact is we look up to people on television and their possessions. We want what they want. Television provides us with modeled images we dream of resembling someday.

Stories from movies and shows on television alone have a positive effect on our actions and behavior. Writers have created imaginative stories where we can escape into the writer's own constructed world. A perfect example is the movie "Rudy." The movie is based on a typical teenager who, since a child, had always wanted to play football for Notre Dame. His friends and family told him that he was too stupid and that he couldn't even get into college, let alone play football. Rudy took all the negative energy and used it to work even harder. To make it short and sweet, Rudy ended up inviting his friends and family to his first appearance in a Notre Dame football game. After watching the movie, a feeling of pride overwhelmed my soul. Knowing that this movie was based on a true story almost left me in tears. From a personal standpoint, the story line in the movie "Rudy" captured a lot of what growing up was like for me. I had a lot of people around telling me that I couldn't make it, just like in Rudy's case. I felt myself falling into the shoes of the character, sharing the same traits. Many stories that are told on television can be related to real situations we come across daily. Another example is the sitcom "Seinfeld." The sitcom is about nothing and it's hilarious. It's watching your average person and his friends doing nothing. Is that weird? Well no. The show contains your everyday problems like your friends bugging you, or waiting a half-hour to get a table at a Chinese restaurant. We are entertained by watching others deal with the same situations we come across. It makes us laugh when the Soup Nazi says, "No soup for you," or Kramer comes stumbling into Jerry's apartment acting like a klutz. Television provides us with stories that have a positive impact on our daily life.

Children programs on television portray a positive attitude and expand a child's horizons. The benefit of television for children is endless. From advertisements to cartoons, a child's imagination can run wild. Children love to see different advertisements ranging from GI-Joe figures to fast cars. They are always interested in what's out, what's coming out, and if they can have it. What do children really love the most? Children love cartoons. Cartoons are the gateway to the imagination for a child. I remember when I was a child, all I wanted to do was watch cartoons and then draw cartoons. Television provided me with the imagination that I could create anything. I could draw a chair and make it have a face and dance. I could draw a monkey and dress him as a businessman. There were no ends to the possibilities. Television can be very educational for children too. If your child is getting ready to go into Kindergarden, the television provides many programs and ads that will prepare your child for school. Programs such as "Sesame Street" and "Hooked on Phonix" have proved to help enhance a child's ability to learn. Television provides continuous education and entertainment for children.

Once again, United States is in a war. Many lives are killed and many soldiers are putting their lives out to fight for the freedom of others. Many people around the world are protesting against the war and Americans families are crying for their loves one who died during the war. Who will win the war and when will it end? It is a question that everyone in the world is waiting for the answer. But before getting the answer one side must win the war. Using the war between United States and Iraq as an example for how to win the war. High technology weapons, well-trained troops and intricately plotted battle plan are the three major concepts in winning a war.

``Our high-tech advantage will make it easier for us to keep the peace, Bush told about 10 industry leaders at a White House forum. `` Munitions, grounds weapons, aircraft, warships, or any other mass destruction weapons with technologies such as Tactical Internet and Appliqu software are all high technology weapons that are useful in winning the war. However, ground weapons, aircrafts and warships are one of the three important weapons that are used in any war. For example, in the war between the United States/Coalition and Iraq, the Coalition is using M1A1 Abrams battle tanks. With the armament of 10 mm M56 smooth bore cannon, .50-caliber M machine gun, 7.6 M40 machine gun, and 7.6 M40 machine gun. This M1A1 Abrams can contain four crew, with the maximum speed of 4mph and range of 65 miles.

As for aircraft, the Coalition U.S navy is using a D model called FF/A18 E/F Super Hornet. The primary function of this model is multirole attack and fighter aircrafts that is larger and has a longer range than previous F/A-18 models. The armament is an internal Vulcan 0mm cannon mounted in the nose. The Super Hornet can carry 17,750 pounds of conventional and precision bombs and missiles. With the speed of 1,00 mph, the E model is made for a single-seat while the F model is made for a dual seat.

As for any war, there are at least one warship carry aircrafts. USS Kitty Hawk was one of the U.S aircraft carriers. It has the armament of three Sea Sparrow launchers, and three 0mm Phalanx rapid-fire close-range gun systems. With the speed of 0-plus knot, the USS Kitty Hawks contain approximately 8,000 personnel in battle group.

Do my essay on How To Win a War CHEAP !

In general, winning the war requires well-trained troops. They may be trained in three different forms, which are weapons, physicals, and teamwork. For weapons, they can be train by using new technologies or weapons such as guns, tanks, and communication intranet. For example, one of the new technologies that the U.S troops are using to communicate with other soldiers is the Appliqu. It is runs on the Solaris operating system rather than Windows. This Appliqu also includes both long and short form text message system to augment voice radio commands that can be missed, misheard, or forgotten. Commanders can send encrypted orders individually or to groups. Individual soldier can message one another and it also can update troops locations come into the command post.

For physical training, Army, Navy and Marine have their own way of training. For instance, Army is mainly train using ground weapons such as tanks and they are trained to fight on the ground. As for Marine, they are capable of action in sea, on land, and in between. The last group is Navy, and they are train mostly at sea and they are in charge of warship.

Another way to win a war, command leaders of the country must have a clear battle plan on how to fight the war. Before they scratch down their battle plan they must have a reason for fight it. Different war may have different reasons but they may have one main goal, which is to capture or kill the high command of the enemy. For some countries like the United States had prepared its war-plan for nearly a year before the invasion. Military analysis, major flash points, and coalition are the three important concepts in planning a war. For military analysis the leaders must divide the troops into different functions. For instance in this war between U.S and Iraq, U.S main target is the capital city, Bagdad and their military base is Kuwait city. As planned the U.S first air strike the city and then rolled out two satellite-guide bombs on a major communication tower on the east bank of the Tigris River in downtown Baghdad. Then ground troops come in. Once they close to the capital city, air support again so they could weaken the republican guard unit. Then ground troops marched in from the North, South, and West of Iraq toward Baghdad. Again the ground troops executed surprise attacks.

As part of the plan, commander must have a prediction of time limit in how long the war will last. For example, last year the U.S commander predicts that this war will take 47 days for U.S troops to get within 50 miles of the outskirt of Baghdad. Military supplies such as weapons, foods, and maps also must be prepared before the battle start. For some occasion, military leaders must also prepare for un expected change such as execution of prisoner of war, which are troops who pretend to surrender to create a successful atmosphere for an ambush.

Flash points are very important. Commanders must know where their flash points are in order to win the war. For example, the U.S troops know that their starting point is in Kuwait city and their ending point will be at Baghdad. Coalition is another battle plan that play a major role in fighting the war because coalition between nations can increase the military power. There are approximately thirty thousand British military has deployed to the Persian Gulf region to support 50,000 U.S Army that is currently in Iraq.

Starting a war is easy but staring a peace is hard. Once in a while there will be countries fighting other countries for some reason. However, in order to end that war, one side must win, but how can they win? Winning a war consider three major points which is using high technologies weapons, well-trained troops, and well plotted plan battle. Generally, for any war, these points are important concepts in winning a war. For example, in the war between United States and Iraq, U.S leaders are using these three important concepts trying to win the victory for America in a very short coming time.

Why I have chosen Roy Lichtenstein

• After going to the National Gallery's exhibition "The Art of Collaboration The Big Americans'

• I just wanted to steal just one of Roy's paintings. I decided that they would look even better hanging on my wall. Its funny saying that after reading a quote of Lichtenstein's that stated that his ambition had been to produce a picture so hideous that no one would hang it.

• I've got a feeling he was aiming this comment to the nasty art critics' of the time.

Inspired my designing

• His work is about art and style despite its extremely mechanical and predictable look. I'm inspired by the fact that his paintings can have such a simple aesthetic but yet maintain his style over the years of technological advances. His evolved with the advancements.

Lichtenstein's facts

• Born - New York on the 8th of October 1

• Past away in 17

• American painter, sculptor, printmaker and decorative artist

• Roy Lichtenstein's earliest series of paintings, those which establish his reputation, were greatly enlarged frames from comic strips.

• These achieved instant success because they seemed to represent the new love with popular, mass culture. But not without his critics.

• He brought irony to genuine comic-strip material in the 160's

• He once said; "I think my work is different from comic strips-but I wouldn't call it transformation…What I do is form, whereas the comic strip is not formed in the sense I am using the word; comics have shapes, but there has been no effort to make them intensely unified. The purpose is different, one tends to depict and I intend to unify. And my work is actually different from comic strips in that every mark is really in a different place, however slight the difference seems to some."

• In fact, as the later development of Roy's art has shown, his work is much more about the mechanisms of perception, and about the way in which representations of people and things are coded, than about popular culture, which he simply takes as a contemporary "given."

• The apparent mechanical style of Lichtenstein's art was not so much product of the techniques employed, it was the look, the aesthetic the artist desired.

• He adopted the subject matter of popular culture, of action movies and comics, romantic potboilers, advertisements, manufactured objects and items of food. I prime example of this would be his painting "Kitchen Stove of 161-6'.

Kitchen Stove 161-6 oil on canvas

• This painting was rendered to achieve a mechanical look using the Ben Day dot system a commercial printing technique used to denote half tones, named after the American illustrator Benjamin Day.

• Lichtenstein reproduces the regular screen of dots typical of comic-strip images, something which becomes doubly noticeable when the pictures are blown up to a very large scale.

• On the side of the stove, the eye mixes the colour of the dots and the colour of the background, which gives the appearance of lighter blue.

• The combo of the commercial subject matter and his technique produced a double-edged art characterised by a keen wit and mocking style.

• This piece is pretty cute. I can feel the 50's influence. And I just image an American mother getting the mittens on to move them the awaiting cooling rack. I would love it as a Tee print.

Whaam! 16 Acrylic on Canvas 1.7 x 4.1m

• Whaam! shows an American jet-fighter shooting down an opponent. The scene is recreated with a detailed use of the characteristic effects produced by cheap colour-printing- (1) hard outlines, () areas of flat colour, () patches of absolutely regular hatching or shading.

• Other features, which have nothing to do with the realist impulse are also striking the stylized burst of flames surrounding the doomed aircraft as it explodes, and the expressive lettering which renders the sound of the explosion.

• To avoid the often muddy look found in these cheap printings, Lichtenstein purified his palette, focusing on primary colours and black and white.

• At such a huge scale his paintings become lighter and bolder.

• Carefully recomposing the imagery, often by cropping, simplifying and enlarging, producing something more refined, with a flat, pattern quality.

• He was noted say; "At the beginning I wasn't sure exactly what I was doing, but I was very excited about, and interested in, the highly emotional content yet detached, impersonal handling of love, hate, war, etc, in these cartoon images…The closer my work is to the original, the more threatening and critical the content. However, my work is entirely transformed in that my purpose and perception are entirely different. I think my paintings are critically transformed."

Peace through chemistry 1 & Bronze 170

• Colour lithograph screenprint & Cast bronze relief

• Just put this one in to make note the ways his translated his art into a D bronze relief.

• The compositions consist of a head in profile, with chemistry paraphernalia and a machine-like, Art Deco look.

• It may be a sculpture but its very D.

Nude with Blue Hair 14 Colour relief print

• When making relief prints, Lichtenstein would always insist on carving the wood himself. But in Nudes, he adopted a new method. For this last series Lichtenstein made at Tyler Graphics before his death in 17, he agreed to make these works using an innovative method of printing from plastic relief plates, which Kenneth Tyler had proposed.

• He stated "I wanted to mix artistic conventions that you would think are incompatible, namely the play of light against dark and local colour, and see what happened. My nudes are part light and shade, and so are the backgrounds, with dots to indicate shade. The dots are also graduated from large to small, which usually suggests modeling in peoples minds, but that's not what you get with these figures. I don't really know why I chose nudes. I'd never done them before, so that maybe something, but I also felt the play of light against dark would look good on the body. And with my nudes there's so little body flesh or skin tones they're so unrealistic that using them underscored the separation between reality and artistic convention."
